I did not see anywhere on the boards for this and I think its on many peoples minds. I am a parent and have been through a head on wreck so anything safety related is always on my mind when choosing a new car. Now I need some help from those that already know all the ins and outs for Saturn's. I have read online about their safety ratings, are these all correct? The Aura is looking good to me, but I never really believe either anything the dealer or online stuff says, so who do I believe?
The safety ratings figured highly for me when choosing a car because I have a kid too. I cannot tell you whether or not they are all correct-only those doing the testing would know that. But yes, I trust them to be accurate and based my choices in part around them.
I would trust the results of testing done by objective, outside sources such as Consumer Reports over the testing done by the car company. An impartial tester will interpret the data acquired in a fair way as they don't have a financial stake in the results. Consumer Reports did give Saturn good rankings in safety, by the way.
Having been in a couple minor accidents in Saturns I can say they are correct. Saturns hold themselves pretty well when being hit, even by a larger vehicle. Consumer Reports is a very good source to check for great reviews and ratings for vehicles. Their mpg testing is some of the most accurate in the industry, if not the most.
Yes, you are correct. There really would be no reason to doubt the consumer reports because they have nothing to gain by making the results look one way or the other.
I have yet to check consumer reports, but this one I found on crashtests.com and I was just wondering what I could compare it too. This one shows some of the ones I really like but with not so great results, so I hope I can come across something more that will change my thoughts on it.
The results look good for the Aura and Outlook but some of the others didn't seem to come through the tests very well, did they? I don't have them open side by side to compare but I'm pretty sure the results were better from consumerreports.org which is where I looked. Honestly, I don't know the terms for all the ratings, either so perhaps the two organizations tested different aspects.
Consumer Reports is always an excellent source, especially when it comes to something in relation to safety, since they are objective and don't seem to be on anyone else's payroll.
While I am not longer subscribed to it, I still pick up the occasional issue and it's very helpful.
Anyway, the Aura definitely looks pretty good with safety.
