auto tranny starts in 2nd only

I have a 1999 sc2 auto tranny. Every now and then it wants to start out in 2nd or 3rd gear and not shift out. I can't override with manual shifting, so I replaced the valve body with a rebuilt on from donny (central valve body) it did not help. no reverse slam.Two weeks later it is doing it all the time, It is locked in 2nd or 3rd gear (hard to till what one) all the time when I put it in drive , reverse is OK. Could it be the pcm? where is it located. HELP all in put so welcome THANKS JIM

Replace your Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. This sensor can crack and send false data to the PCM. It uses the ECTS for a few transmission functions.

Also, if a light load is detected the car may start out in 2nd gear with the TC unlocked. With a medium load it will start out in 1st and with a heavy load (past 3/4 thottle) it will start in second. Get on a steep hill at a stop and start going foward with medium load. You should be able to tell if its going into first or not.

Also not that the car will NOT go into 1st gear if the selector is placed in 2. It WILL go into 1st gear when placed in D or 3
