The dyno of my '92 shows peak horsepower at 5950rpm (all cars are different of course). Horsepower does not start to fall radically till after about 6300rpm.
Even though 5950 is the hp peak, you can keep revving while the horsepower is high (horsepower is a function of RPM and torque), in order to have the most horsepower and torque available at your next shift.
Our torque curve is flat enough, so it's not critical to have a precise shift point, as long as you don't go outside the powerband. Suprisingly enough, peak torque on my car was about 2500rpm. I wouldn't suggest going past 6300-6500, cause that's where it really starts to lose power. |
