| getting pounded with tropical storm right now... well, just what we needed MORE RAIN LOL after almost 3 weeks of non stop rain were not being hit with a tropical storm, just north of us, around sarasota is going to get the brunt of it, but we are getting about 20 mph winds with slightly higher gusts right now. DRENCHING pouring rain... man we been dealing with this for weeks now.
in florida it rains EVERY afternoon, ft myers is the lightning capitol of the world more people get hit here then anywhere else. but this is ridiculous, its been pouring for two weeks, lake ocochobee (beside the great lakes the largest lake in the country) is at the overflowing point, they keep releasing more freshwater out hoping to allviate pressure off the dikes (thats diukes, not dykes like in leslie-ben's!) it just keeps coming! hell i could jet ski donw my street right now! LOL
oh well, so much for taking care of my house chores today!

| today i did something really stupid...
it was to wet to mow but the weather.com was showing the bad aprt of the storm had passed, it was nice out, so i said lets hitch up and go boating today and mow tomorrow... oh boy...
we were out about an hour, it was cool cause we had the beachs to ourselves, very few boats out , we got slammed with a band of the storm, they clal them feeder bands first we holed up under a bridge thinking it would pass since we could see the sun behind it, after an hour and a break we made a run for the ramp...
we hit san carlos pass and got caught in id say the 4th worse boating storm ive been in in over 20 years of owning /operating boats... (danny you know where san carlos is, just south of where we used to keep the houseboat, the biggest bridge at lovers key...) we got hit with a microburst so strong it came under the top of the boat, the rain was pelting the **** out of us and the wind was actually trying to rip the top off the boat *(boat tops are made to withstand crusing or towing at at least 50 mph, over 50 and you should take them down...) it got SO bad it ripped two METAL stanchions out of the hold down points for the top!
so happens one night after wokr this week i installed larger bilge pumps down in the sponsons (catamaran hulls) im glad i did that cause the rain alone put about 10 gallons in each one judging from watching them pump out... the baby was huddled down with mel, man i hate getting caught with the kid, by myself its a thrill to whup ass on 4-6 foot chop, with people on board you are responsible for their safety..(duh..<grin>)
sure as **** as we neared the ramp, the band passed it was sunny and hot as could be, about a 1/2 mile from the ramp we saw a go fast that broke down and we pulled him to the ramp, he was on the outside and hit 8 footers! he hit an offshore sandbard and sucked sand through his impellers and overheated his engines...our waters are so shallow you can hit sandbars a mile offshore thats 6 inchs deep, i know, we hit one 4th of july at like 10 pm coming in in pitch black! lol
anways, that was my big adventure for the weekend tomorrow ill fix whatevers broken...

| Joe.... Luck You made it safely out of that Storm as I know....those Storm's can be deceiving as they can be a far distance off & move in really fast! I still remember the storm I was in when I was in the Houseboat.... man, the Wind was so bad the Palm's were bending sideway's & the rain was like a Wall & the Ocean was sure bouncing that Boat around like a Toy with me in it!!! luck I do not get sea sick as it lasted all Night & me constantly going out on the boat & retying the rubber Bumber's so the there would be no Boat damage & then in the Morning with the Dock's underwater & me walking on them!!!! The Owner's of the dock's said they had never seen a storm that bad!! what an experience!! |

| oh yeah! i forgot all about that! LOL, remeber you walking the docks which you couldnt see cause they were two feet underwater? LOL, good thing that boat was tied for a hurricane, after getting hit twice with georges and mitch when it was down in the keys i learned you cant have ENOUGH lines properly set up, that boat was secure as ft knox!
i miss that ****er danny, sometimes i wish i had powered it and instead of using it as a floating condo, used it , well, to pull up in a secluded cove and camp all weekend, hell, it had everything, all id have had to do was strap my generator to the back deck for weekends away from the docks!
