That's just like when I lived in CA all of the people heading up to Reno or Tahoe in their SUV's thought they were invinceable and were usually the one's ending up in the ditches.

Drive down the highway in a snowstorm. Every vehicle that slides off the road is 4WD. Idiots buy them for their wives, who have no clue how to handle them, 4WD or not.

We had a pretty good snowstorm a couple of years ago, while I was heading back from a gig in a city 3 hours north of here.

On the way home, I counted 48 vehicles in the ditch. 47 were SUVs, and 1 was an old Ford station wagon.

4 wheel drive is safer? Only if you respect the limits.

Not only is 4WD no safer than 2WD, but 90% of the time people use it, it's completely unnecessary. I have friends (and a brother) with pickup trucks, and they rarely ever have to flip them into 4WD when there's snow on the ground. All 4WD does is give an uneducated driver a confidence that's unnecessary and very dangerous.

some do and some dont. my father drives a tractor trailer and i forget what its called....i think a J brake, but i cant remember. it will lock up all 8 wheels in the back and if you are on ice you will have some traction to get unstuck.....but that son newer trucks and not the odler ones.

Emily,
are those pics from ur phone?

Mike,
are those pics real? it doesnt evenm look like anyone is driving that minivan, unless its some old granny lady that can barely see over the steering wheel
