Ah, code 32 is EGR trouble.
Between my data logging and a physical inspection and testing, I have verified that the EGR valve is bad.
I don't feel that the EGR has a damn thing to do with the temp instability, especially since the car has thrown a code 32 every now and then ever since I bought it and it's never had this temp problem before. It's just that I managed to catch the EGR DTC pop up while I had the laptop plugged in, so I could see what everything was doing at the time it occured.
This temp thing has me perplexed. I know it's not just a sender or a gauge because I can feel the temperature of the air from the heater fluctuating right along with the gauge. I get cold air when the gauge is low, warm when it's in the normal range, and super-hot air when it's high on the gauge.
Okay, so I did check out all of my fluids, as usual. My oil is great, coolant is full. Nothing is mixed anywhere. This is just damn weird. Maybe, some how, my thermostat is cracked out. I just don't know. I hate to take shots in the dark, but I think I'm going to yank the thing and check it.
