Default happy veterans day everyone!

in a long standing tradition that i started on satfans many years ago every veterans day i would put up a post thanking our vets and in remeberance of my grandfather, angelo cutrone and godfather, collie cutrone (it might be interesting to dig up the archives and add them to this post.
during world war 2 my grandfather served in the south pacific, his ship was shot at many times and engaged in compat agaisnt many mitsubishi planes (hence why to this day i still WONT buy a mitsu of any type allthough i do feel they put out soem nice cars), my godfather collie served and landed at omaha on d day, getting shot not once, but twice to defend this country, in the end he was a decorated war hero with two purple hearts and a war medal.
when my grandfather passed he left me a lighter collection, in it was my godfathers lighter which has a story behind it.
when in got it i didnt know it was my godfathers (i later found out from my grandmother) but was curious about it, it is called a doughboy lighter , it is fully functional to this day, in the bottom of it was a seperate canteen to hold extra lighter fluid when in the feild. during the war no civilians got lighters, all steel went to the war effort.
the doughboy was inscribed d-day with the date we landed at omaha.
my godfather carried this lighter when he landed and later had it inscribed, its been in my family ever since.
when i think back to what they went through and think of the countrys current state, with george dubba about to launch is into 'his oil war' it makes me sad, almost a disservice to those that really had to go out and fight, those that took bullets for us so we can remain free.
the war now , bush wants us to go in and finish his fathers business, back then the whole world was in turmoil and every country could have been affected or invaded.
so, if you have a vet in your family, a favorite uncle, a cousin, even a family freind, take 5 minutes today, call them up and simply say 'thank you for serving" i think they'll apprecaite it. happy veterans day everyone!

Let's all have a moment of silence remembering those who fought in the wars, and those who are fighting in the war right now.

poor real charlie, i was the first ever to use the term nazi moderator (on him during the lawsuit form saturn) which turned out to be used on lots of boards, now im mixing him up with the vietnamese!
i once said thank you for serving to a customer of mine who was a highly decorated fighter pilot ( he was whats called a river rat, apperantley is yuo flew the red river, i think thats the name of it, you got that nickname) and he said in all his years i was the first person to ever just walk up and say that, i was surprised at his reaction, so today, find a vet and THANK HIM, would you take a bullet for me? (well, maybe some of you would, lol) in reailty most people wont even stop a crime in progress, never mind take a bullet....
