Default Hardware trouble? My never ending war with my PC

Ok so I did a user restore, still having trouble with MSGSRV32.dll . So I did a factory restore, reinstalled the most up to date drivers for all my aftermarket hardware (video, networking card). Still having the same trouble. I can't figure out what the problem is. Could it be my optical mouse? I had one before with no problems. Could it possible be a mouse problem? I think its in a different port or whatever right now, maybe I should put it on the back like I had my old one and see what happens.

Anways, I had considered trying a reformat is it? Maybe install windows 98 on my pc instead of using ME which it came with from the factory.

Anybody know what my options are? I think I"m going to get myself a new computer, order one online. I think I found the tower set up, like a 2.1 mghz processor, 120 gb harddrive, etc, for like a grand. I don't remember the name of the mother board if you guys could tell me the best mother board brand name then I will try to get one of those in there.

Anyways I still want this old computer to be usable as I would like for my wife to have one that is better than what she is using now. (her current one has no slots for video cars, poor girl has to play diablo 2 in 600x400 with no 3d or anything). Yea I know its practically emotional abuse lol. Thats why I'm hoping to get this one fixed so she can use it.

Anybody know what my options are for fixing it? I'm beginning to wonder if its now totally a hardware issue. I don't know why it would have just started all of a sudden, but thats what it did.

If you look in the general for sale or the bussiness sales, some one is selling computers, What I hear they are a very good brand. Just thought I let you know.

Let's do this one step at a time........
Are you getting an error message that looks something like this?

General Protection Fault or Invalid Page Fault During Setup
MSGSRV32 caused a GPF in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001:00001b51
MSGSRV32 caused a stack fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 0001.00005595

None of those Celtic.

What happens is I'll be surfing the web and my web browser and tray at the bottom of the screen and even my mouse sometimes will quit responding. Its like everything slows by like 20 times the normal amount it would take to do something like minimize a window or close one or move the page up and down using the scroll bar thingy on the right.

When it does this I can do a ctrl+alt+del and in the box that comes up there is :

MSGRSV32.dll (not responding)

Then if i select it and hit end task everything returns right back to normal. It happens at random times, theres really no cause or anything that I can pinpoint.

I could very well be wrong, but I think that might be for MSN messenger service. I used to have that problem, but never found out what was causing it.

Good ol' Windows ME. I had it, it was the absolute worst windows that ever came out. '95 was bad, windows 98 was a little better, then comes ME, and its like they just decided to throw out a version of windows they fudged up or something. It gave me all sorts of problems. Boot problems, Hard drive errors, constant crashing, programs shutting down on their own. It's like it was alive.

Anyways, my suggestion would be to go with windows 98, it's simpler, and not as buggy (although still very buggy) as ME. When I built my new PC, I threw on XP and it works like a charm. Alot easier, doesn't crash nearly as much, usually not at all in like a week or 2.

Billy,
I'd go with Win98SE anyday. When I ordered my Toshiba, I told them that I wanted 98SE on it since, all-in-all, it's STILL the most stable Windows OS made. I might have a cutting-edge laptop, and might can run anything out there, but I sure as hell am not going to put up with the BS that the newer version of Windows seems to churn out on a daily basis.

Agreed......the Windows 98 operating system is still the most stable operating system to date.

This type of error is quite common actually and really has nothing to do with the hardware. 2 things could be causing this. First being you would have something like a palm pilot connected to your computer, or the second being a simple power management issue.

How do you fix it? Simple......print this out and follow the steps...

1. Quit any running programs, and then test to determine if a specific program is causing this behavior. If you quit all running programs and the issue is resolved, one of the programs that was running is the cause of this behavior. If this does not resolve the issue, continue to step 2.

2. Disable power management. To do so, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power.

3. In the Power Management box, click Off (or click the "Allow windows to manage power on this computer" check box to clear it).

4. Click OK.

5. Restart your computer.

If the behavior continues to occur, follow these additional steps:

1. In Control Panel, double-click System.

2. On the Device Manager tab, double-click the System Devices branch to expand it.

3. Double-click Advanced Power Management Support.

4. On the Settings tab, click the Enable Power Management Support check box to clear it, and then click OK.

5. Click OK.

6. Restart your computer when you are prompted to do so.

That should clear it up. Try that and let me know if u have further problems.

Estairker you have the same problem as me? Someone said at another site that they thought MSGSRV32 was like a thing that ran your keyboard and mouse and such as that. Do you have anything aftermarket like a keyboard or mouse on your pc?

my whole computer is aftermarket......LOL. I built it myself, but on my last one, I did have the problem, and that computer was a gateway, but I added a Microsoft natural keyboard and an optical laser mouse, but the problem occured before those were added. that has nothing to do with the keyboard or mouse.
