| Hi everyone. Fresh meat here. Hi everybody,
I just got my Saturn a week ago today (Thursday), a beautiful dark blue 92 SL2 5 speed with 93k. I've been browsing around different Saturn enthusiast pages and found Tom01SC2 in Saturnperformance.com's chat room and he referred me here.
Anyway, I'm 17, I live in Bristol, TN, and my SL2 is my 2nd car, my first being an 88 VW Golf GL. I have a preference towards the 1st gen body style because I prefer cars with stronger lines, but I'm not saying that I hate the 2nd gen cars, because I dont. SC cars are nice in any form, but I'm not as fond of the ones with pop ups.
I'm looking forward to many years of happy Saturn ownership and membership on this forum.

| Welcome Airlock.
I'm guessing your v-dub was either wrecked or you sold it cause those cars never die.
I drove '85 - '96 golfs and jettas for four years at my old job.
They're pretty quick.
But I love my Saturn.

| I appreciate the warm welcomes! Now for some responses:
MR: My V-dub is still in daily service. My dad drives it to work and back and everywhere else. It's a VERY reliable car, and we've had very few problems out of it. It has somewhere approaching 180k (unsure of actual mileage due to the original odometer breaking), and still runs like a top. My dad recently replaced most of the shiftrod bushings and it excited him to no end to have a tight shifter again. I also have a 68 Karmann Ghia coupe in not-quite-show-but-very-presentable condition that I can drive on nice days. Stays in my Grandpa's garage.
and speaking of my dad..
Cxtra_Vue: Bristol Compressors is where my Dad works. He's an inspector on D shift. He's been there for about 13 years now, and has disliked nearly every minute of it, but it pays well and has good benefits so he keeps most of the complaining to a minimum
As for me, I work at one of the local Taco Bell's, and I'm paying for my Saturn myself (with the help of a 0% interest loan from the First Bank of Grandpa). Retired Grandpas sure are great!
I'm also glad to see that there are people who still prefer the 1st gen cars. I'm drawn to the 1st gen because of the lines, and I think the pre-95 dash design is better for some reason. I'm not attracted to roundness for some reason, but who am I to argue with what's very popular?

| Welcome to the Spot Airlock.....if there's anything u need answers to, you'll find it here.
I had a 94 VW Jetta and I think I was lucky enough to own the one and only lemon VW ever made, cuz it was in the shop at least once a month for repairs, numerous times being towed there. I'm like the only person I know of who's had that many problems with a VW.
So u have any plans for your Saturn?

| CelticShadow: 93-95 were the worst years for VW reliability. They were still working kinks out of the new 2.0L and 1.9L diesel powerplants and the A3 platform. They also had quite a few problems with electric reliability. By 96 the cars had attained the same level of reliability that the A2 cars had achieved (and maybe then some). If your Jetta happened to be an automatic I feel even more sorry for you. VW automatics have ALWAYS sucked hardcore, and I would never own an automatic Volkswagen. However, the M/T gearboxes are damned near bulletproof. I learned to drive manual on my old Golf with high mileage and original clutch, and the car STILL has it's original clutch.
As far as plans for my Saturn, I don't really have the money to sink into mods right now. There are also a few bugs that I need to have taken care of. My front passenger window needs a new regulator(?) I think, because it jams on the way down and make a horrible buzzing noise when it comes to a stop. Also, my windshield washer jets don't seem to work, and I'm not sure what the deal with that is. Other than that the car is fine. I had to have an alternator put on it 2 days after I bought it because it nearly stranded me in the middle of nowhere at 12:30AM. Luckily I was following a friend in another car and he boosted my car off 3 times for me to make the 20 mile journey home.
When I get the money and have those issues addressed, I'd like to have the windows tinted, and probably just put in a decent stereo. I don't care for boom, but I like accurate sound reproduction (comes from being a instrumentalist I guess). Other than that, I'm quite happy with the way the car performs and looks. I'm sure I'll want to do other things to it in the future, but the "new" hasn't worn off of it for me yet

| As many problems as I had with the car, I still love VW's.....I think they're great cars all around, and alot of them are damn quick too. Glad to hear you like your Saturn. If you need parts, talk to Joey....he's got the deals and the hookups on all the parts you need, better then any dealership will give you.
