| man you saw one? damn i cant wait to lay my eyes on it! see we have a disturbing trend around my house, to many vehicles! melissa's volvo rarely gets even 100 miles a week on it, but she needs something diffrent, like a v-70 wagon, a little more room so when she picks up boxs and stuff.
then, the tahoes aging, she's still mint, even the leather, but i bought the two truck cause i tow so much and very heavy weights.
so, id like to get melissa a new car, id like a newer quad cab diesel pick up so i can get rid of both the tahoe and tow truck (ill jsut keep sing my car hauler, but i want something with a BED so i can throw stuff on it without having to use the trailer all the time like i do with the tahoe, to keep the tahoe nice i wont put parts in it, so if im driving that during the week sometimes im hauling a trailer just for parts...) THEN i get MY new toy, like i said, ive been eyeing a couple year old black eldo etc , ive owned 14 new caddys between 96 and 00, so im familar with the brand, but man, when i saw this, my jaw dropped. THIS is THE one....

| As for a truck, nothing, and I mean NOTHING, is better than a Dodge Ram with a 5.7 Hemi or a Cummins turbo diesel.
I would personally get a Corvette ragtop over the XLR for the simple reason that the slushbox is mandatory in the Caddy. I believe the XLR shares the Corvette chassis.

| thats interesting, im glad to hear its NOT based on a opel like the l series or catera! LOL
but, ive driven vette convertibles at length, of all the convertible, t top, or targa top cars ive owned/driven, and ive driven ALLOT, the vette had MORE WIND NOISE then any other convertible, even at 50 mph you cant talk on the cell phone or to the passenger. whereas other convertibles ive been in you can easily hold a conversation at 80, even a 100, not that i would know, <grin>
also, ive taken a c-5 vette up to about 130 mph, to be quite frank the cars a handful, very quirky at super high speeds, which is surprising. meliss'as volvo at 137 was far smoother, easier to control etc of course thats comparing apples to oranges but the car that deems itself the best (the vette, and by the way i DO like them, just so to many quirks) should handle speeds over 120 mph with ease.
another note on the vette, they bragged so much about how much engineering went into it, when i used to use my friends (when she needed a 4 door car we would swap, id loan her my sts and id get the vette, cool win win situation! lol) i noticed something many people wouldnt but it stood right out to me.
the nissan z cars, the last genration used VERY expensive self amplified bose speakers, these were wonderful EXCEPT, they were frightfully costly, and they were prone to fail within a couple years of owning the car, very very similar bose self amplified speakers were used in the c-5, here comes the kicker, when you would open the rear hatch, the smallest amount of morning dew, rainwater etc, ANYTHING that was on that rear glass would immdeietly fall ONTO THE SPEAKERS! i was like, look at this ****? no-one thought these bose self amplified speakers would tolerate this? planned obsolence or egineering oversight at best.

| Yeah, the XLR is to the corvette as a G35 coupe si to a 350Z only the exterior is totally different. You can expect lots of refinement over the vette, including a hardtop convertible(i believe). The only downside would be the auto tranny |

| you think theyll release a 5 speed later?
when i had my last sts i almost got a escalade (back then i got a black expedition instead) the reason i WOULDNT get the escalade is cause it didnt come with a northstar!(which as far as i know it still doesnt, but it SHOULD) so basically i thought, why pay for an overpriced yukon, if you cant get it with the northstar thats really all it is... funny i wound up with a tahoe anyway cause thats what its based on.
i like 5 speeds of course, and im not keen on first year cars, but, man that thing just , well, you know car people, it GRABBED ME it screamed out the page, this is you joey donuts! LOL
and the ad did say it has the northstar (wouldnt even consider it if it was an opel) but i dont think the tranny will hold me back.

| I doubt there will ever be a demand for a 6-speed manual on a Cadillac. I personally refuse to spend money on a car that's going to dictate its behavior (i.e. shift points) to me.
The only thing the Northstar engine can do that the Corvette's LS1 can't is run without coolant, not that big a deal IMHO. I believe that the Escalade's engine is LS1-based as well, although I could be wrong. I'd take the LS1 power over the Northstar's "radiator failure insurance" any day :P
I've never heard about any Vette being "quirky" at high speeds either. Of course, its sport suspension is not going to ride as smooth as a luxury car like a Volvo :P
