Default hood liner...

how many of you have removed the fiber liner underneath your hoods....if it is removed will it allow the paint to fade quickly...does it even serve a purpose...let me know...later

essentially a heat insulator, I wouldn't recommend removing it.

When I got my 94 SL1 it didnt have a liner.

My 92SL1 didnt have one either.

The guy at the shop told me my 94 didnt have the stock hood? He said that mine was like tin or something and wicked light. I cant tell a difference between this one and the one on my 92.

The purpose of that is to quiet down the sound coming from the engine. It does absolutely no harm to the paint on the hood at all, nor anything else. I removed mine with no problems at all.

I thought it was in case you had a fire under your hood, pins would melt then the liner would drop. Anyways, I have taken that liner out of every car I ever had that still had one and it never hurt the hood.

How easy is it to remove? I've thought about taking mine out myself-considering it's just extra weight AND it doesn't look exceptionally beautiful.

If its the same on saturns as it ison other GM cars(mine didnt have one when I bought it) you just pull out a couple of round plastic retainers and it comes right out.

It's easy to remove, you just pull out the plastic pins holding it in. But why? The thing hardly weights anything and helps to kepp the engine noise down. One of the advantages of buying the SL/SC2.
