hospitals and insureance is bs....

A few weeks ago, I was walking outside to get into my car (9:30pm) It was dark but I could still see. But what I didn't see was the black snake that bit my right ankle as i walked by. I jumped and turned around as I saw his shadow slither away. He didn't puncture my skin, just kinda scraped my ankle and left two small marks on my leg. I get to my gf's house and she and her mom convince me to go to the hospital just to get it checked out. So I go the next morning and check into the emergency room. I sat in the waiting room for an hour. Then someone called me back to another room where I had the pleasure of waiting another 30 minutes. Finally a doctor showed up. He looks at my ankle and says, its been over 8 hours and theres no puncture wounds, you're fine, nothing is wrong with you. He was in the room a whole 30 seconds. He leaves the room, and I wait alone for another 30 minutes. Finally a nurse comes in and gives me the usual bull****ter story and sends me on my way. Last week I got the doctors bill. My company pays my insureance so it doesn't come out of my check every week. Thats kool with me. My co-pay was only $40. I'm thinkin thats kool, no big deal. Today I recieve another bill, the hospital's bill. The doctor's bill was $176 and the hospital bill was $60. The hospital charged me 60 to sit in a room for 2 hours and another 176 for some guy to who makes 100k a yr to come in and say nice to see ya, good bye. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but thats ****in rediculous. I could understand it if he had actually done something, but 176 to say nothing is wrong with you is outrageous.

still thats bull**** but then again people do pay some guy to walk around there car and tell them what they think is wrong and they pay for that same guy to pull a price out of his ass on how much it's gonna take to fix said problem LoL

One of the main reasons why you don't go to an emergency room for something that is not an emergency. They usually charge 10x's the rates than going to a regular doctor.

damn.. up in jersey.. just about every hospital has a 15/30min policy.. u see a nurse within 15 min and the initial dr withing 30 min..

well isnt that koo u go to the emergency room around here u could die b4 they got a nurse to u.... and most of the doctors are ****ing interns so they dont have a ****ing clue whats going on anyway...... my friend had a colapsed lung they sent her home said there was nothing wrong with her then in the morning they called her mom to see if she knew who this person was who was there last night (they didnt know it was her daughter and also didnt have any way of getting in touch with the daughter) cause she had to come back cause they finally read the damn xray or whatever and realized she had a colapsed lung...... wtf....... i ****ing hate doctors...... just ****ing guess work and a ****ing white coat bunch of ****ing idiots....... i ****ed my knee up in a football game and went to the doctor (now bear in mind my knee was at least 2wice the size of the other one) and i **** u not the doctor says "whats wrong with it" i almost ****ing killed him but i couldnt stand so i obviosly couldnt kick his ass..... ****ing cocksucker mother ****ing doctors..... they dont have a ****ing clue about the **** they are supposed to know about...... **** em alll......

You waited a whole hour and a half thats great compared to navy medical. I passed out at home once and busted my nose. I woke up in a pool of blood from my nose and was very dissorented, I called my wife and she said she would be home in a few minites she got there and my pulse rate was only 40. (Wife was an EMT)so we get into the car and go to the base hospital. I cant stay awake and I cant remember phone numbers, my social sec number, my rank stuff like that. I waited in the waitng room for 7 and a half hours before I was taken back then when the doctor came and saw me he acted like I faked the whole thing. They took me serious the following night when I passed out and fell off a ladder at the base I was out of work for 3 weeks becuse my blood pressure was spiking due to a hart problem I have.

On the doc charging you 175 do you know what they pay in malpractice ins a year? My mom is an RN and the doc she works with pays $375,000 a year in malpractice a year. don't blame the doc for the high rates blame the people suing over stupid things. There are a lot of lawsuits like suing for sideffects that you were told before hand could happen and the had them sign statments saying they understood that could happen. Don't get me wrong if they f-up then sue em fine but, dont go in for brain surgery and sue becuse you have a headace afterwards (it happens).

I am glad you were ok though (you can get enough posion to make you sick or die just from the fang scratching you with some snakes so I think you were right to go)

the only reason I went was b/c I'm not a doctor, and like hazegry said, you could get enough poison from just a fang scratch. Well, I don't know that you can't, and on top of that, I didn't see what kind of snake it was. All I saw was his shadow..Just really pissed me off that they charged $62 just to occupy one of their chairs for 2 hours and $176 for "the doc" to see, ur fine. The emergency room is the only place that can treat a snake bite. The doctors offices don't cary anti-venom.

well if doctors wernt ****ing retarded people wouldnt be able to sue them over stupid stuff.... do u know how many times things get left inside people after sergeries??? and not just gause im talking about scalpuls and those pincher things, metal stuff big **** that you would think they would notice....

o and btw sure they pay alot for insutance but do u ever see a doctor driving anything less than a mercades or equal?? and do u ever see a doctor living in a ****ty house.... dont act like they got it all bad or something... they are making money hand over fist and all because of someone elses pain and suffering

If you are so jelous of them making so much cash go to college so you can have a good carrer. Most new doctors (less than 8 years in practice) are not making big bucks becuse of thier college loan payments and higher insurance rates due to a lack of history ( just like car insurance ).

It is all a Catch22. You want them to be perfect, but sorry that isn't going to happen. It sucks that when they mess up it could be life and death compared to the $5.15 hour McDonald's worker that accidently forgets to give you fries. If all we ever do is sue doctors over mistakes, then the prices will just keep going up and people will get less medical help. And get off the class warfare crap. Like he said, you know they make good money so go to school for it. Don't get pissy because people capitalize on what is going to be best for themselves.
