| How Can I Learn About Cars? I know very little about cars and I wanna know more....
I have the basic knowledge and stats but when I look under the hood or here conversations about parts, I don't know why people recommend certain things cuz I dunno what makes them better....
Where should I start to learn?

| nope the best way is to buy as mny decals as you can for engine parts stick them ALL over your car and say you have all the parts... i mean who cares if you have 7 exaust decals you can have them all if you say you do!!!
honestly the best way... go to your local community collage and take an automotive class... this will give you a basic understand of everything and I'm sure you can meet up with a few people with modified cars and they can help ya over all just read up learn about it from these and other boards... 2 months ago when i joinnned htis board i couldn't tell the differance between a turbo'd engine and a supercharged engine
now I can tell ya basics on both hehe... theres no stupid questions always search for your question it may have been answered before to save from asking the same question for the 80th time =) |

| Read, learn, listen and most importantly...do.
There's nothing that taught me more about cars than actually tinkering with tem. It'll make you nervous as hell for a while, but it works.

| Oh yeah, and get a subscription to Modified and to Turbo and High-Tech Performance magazines. They have the best technical sections of all the magazines from what I have seen. |

| Hmmm
I learned by reading SCC and Motor Trend....laugh all you want. And by working on my car and my friends Firebird (with his dad).

| Jim's advice is the best... just do.
I've learned so much this year because I moved to a state by myself for work, and wanted to improve my Saturn without shelling out a ton in labor. So whenever I undertook a project I read the Chilton manual and did a lot of research online. Most of it is generic as well. For instance, changing a fuel pump is 90% the same process in all cars (in tank).
But the real knowledge comes from doing. I'll tell you, almost *everything* dealing with cars is a simple concept.. in theory. But doing is a different story. As the water pump thread pointed out.. the tough part was not figuring out how to change and install the water pump.. it was how to get the stripped bolts off.
Little ****.. good luck! |

| Agreed......Jim know's what he's talkin about there. I learned mostly by listening, watching, and playin around with the cars that i've owned over the years.
