I have read that putting a 4.6 DOHC in a 5.0 Mustang is a HUGE challenge, because the 4.6 DOHC is extremely wide compared to the OHV 5.0. As I remember reading, Ford's engineers had to do some serious work to the strut towers when they were making the 1996 Mustang.
Now I have heard that putting a 5.8 OHV in a Mustang is not too difficult.
