Default A lesson learned - And one to share - DONT STREET RACE!!!!!!

Hello all Saturn Spot members and visitiors. I am a 17 year old from Parsippany NJ. I use to have a 1992 Saturn SC. I have not been on here in a while. I almost made it never again on sunday. I want to sahre a miracle story with all of you in the hopes that it will all teach you a lesson. I nearly died in a car accident on sunday. I was trying to be cool and show off to my friends behind me in another car. They wanted to race me. We were racing on a straight section on Route 202 in Parsippany. At the end of the straight, there are 3 "S" curves. Coming off of the straight away i was pulling aobut 115/120 mph...........i slowed to 90 to get through the first 2 cuvres..........i got out of them fine........as i set up for the third and final corner I was pulling 100mph..........i entered the turn at 95mph, as i proceeded into the turn, i suddenly felt the rear end of my car slide out...the force of this motion sent the car veering into the left guardrail which was on a bridge crossing over Route 80. I hit the curb jsut before the guardrail at 90mph...The impact of my car hitting the curb sent me straight into the guradrail. Once i hit the guardrail, my car flipped over and landed upsidedown. I then slid over 100 feet upside down until i came to a rest in the middle of the Route 202/Cherry Hill Road merge. My girlfriend and I both had to crawl out through the side windows. Yes we were both wearing our seatbelts....I know for sure we would ahve been killed if we hadn't been wearing them. I remember saying to myself "So this is what it is like to die". And yes it is true, your life does flash infront of you when you think your going to die. I walked away from this accident with only tiny scrapes on my hands and knees from leaning on glass while exiting my car...The same went for my girlfriend. We are both very luck to still be alive. Because of my imature, and wreckless behavior I almost took the life of the girl whom I love with all my heart as well as my own...I made the deathly wrong mistake of thinking that i was invincible in a car. What I did was NOT COOL at all. Trying to be a hot shot will get you killed. I hope all who read this....young and old take what i said to heart. Pass this story on to your friends and family and sons and daughters. I know my dad did when i began to drive.......as you can see I didn't listen to him and i nearly died. Please don't make the same mistakes that i did. Always boey the spped limit. And always race on the track. Be smart. Be safe.

you my friend, had someone watchin over you that day. You should thank god or whoever it is that you pray to every single day that that girls life wasn't taken. I hope that knowing you could've killed that girl and/or urself eats away at you every single time the thought of street racing crosses your mind. You need to understand that you've been givin a second chance.....plz don't do anything that stupid again. And if you do, leave the girl out of it

Oh, and this is a quote from an EMT freind of mine that arrived at the scene of a street-racing incident that I had to go to court for as a witness a year or so ago:

"I'm sure you love the adrenaline and
the excitement of running cars out on
the street. --But that all goes away
when your pulling a girl from a rolled
over WRX that is covered in blood while
she screams at her boyfriend that has
his head smashed between the steering
wheel and roof."

Tell ya, it's damned scary when you pull out of your street onto the main road to go to Krogers for some milk, and 2 WRX's blast past you doing double the limit easily. And then you see them bump each other slightly.

damnit BMX, you're absolutely right, and I respect you greatly for having realized and understood your mistake. Unfortunately it was a near-tragic accident that forced you to come to that realization.

Thanks for sharing this; I'm sure you'll have some sort of impact on all who read it.

I honestly dont get what your going to be proving for racing more then a 1/4 mile? whats the point once you car maxxes out it maxxes out your not an autocrosser you can't take S curves at 95mph be a responsiable driver.

I'll admit sometimes my dick get the best of me and I'll run on the street but never when there is a turn even remotely close or for more then 1/4 mile I honestly don't care if super ricer in his civic thinks he wins after I slow down to a cruising speed andhe flys by me at a 100mph with his hazards on.

NEVER NEVER race with anyone in your car, we shouldn't be racing in the first place but if you do make sure your only responiable for your own life dont race around cars, dont race on turns if your going to do it at least use the blood left in your brain a little bit.

i agree. i dont race because i think it is stupid thing to do.that website link is the reason i dont race. i have known many people just like that guy and what happened to him. you can be the best driver in the work but when it comes down to 100mph and a tree, the tree will win everytime. my best advisefor any street racer is to slow down and take it to the track. the run fee is way more worth it than your life.

even tho i dont race much out on the streets,i personally like the track better its more fun, i totally agree taht its not worth risking your own life plus the life of others that are with you or could be just there at the wrong time. i personally knew someone who was killed in a car accident and she was racing. the two girls were the ones in the accident one was critical for about 3 weeks, the car hit a rock with a flat face flew up in the air and landed upside down on top of the rock, the car they were racing had the boyfriends of these two girls. my friend had to watch as his girlfriend died and he knew there was nothing he could do. he got himself soo messed up after that.
