| I would stay clear of any VW right now. They are getting worse reliability ratings, and the ignition coilpacks found in the jettas and some golfs are brutal for failing. What makes it worse, although they are covered under warranty, is that to get the coilpack situation resolved would require you to wait 3 months for the parts to come off of backorder.
VW is nothing but a trendy car in this day in age, nice fit and finish on the interior and exterior, but mechanically they are garbage.

Forget the reliability problems, cost of upkeep, etc. Every teenage girl and their best friend has one and it gets on my nerves. I am proud of my sis for recognizing the L out of a plethora of other cars in that segment(accord, camry, altima, grand am, focus, stratus, etc etc)...So, I think what im tryin to say is...get an L buddy. For the price u mentioned u could a get a loaded 01 L300 with leather, sunroof...the worx...And thats a v6 thats gonna be a helluva lot faster than the jetta. And best of all its still a Saturn. |

| Well not sure about the Jetta, but I am honestly lookin at the GTI's from that year with a 1.8T
My brother has a green 2000 Jetta with the 1.8T and has had nothing wrong with it, nice car, good finish, great engine and lots of things that can be done to it. |

| ray ray my man, did you know the l series has one of the most dismal track records of all time? espcially the first ones, just recently, like 03 did they get decent....
dude, oil coolers shoved in between the v of the block, door handles that break, man the list was endless. talk to bob l, the guy was a saturn fanatic, he was on satfans and stops by here, even with an awesome dealer, and this is a guy who was saturn fantical, he couldnt take it anymore, the constant trips to the dealer, once his emblem fell of the steering wheel and the only way saturn would repair it was if he bought a 500+ buck air bag!
bro, from friend to freind, the l series was a dismal flop. id steer far away from one unless its one of the 03's even then id consider, theres so MANY good choises out there right now, the altima is awesome for one example.
bro, ask tommy or someone who has access to show you all the recalls and tsbs on l series, an l series is nothing more then an opel owned by gm of europe that saturn brought over , reskinned it and put the ecotech in.
did you know the caddy catera is also an opel? its the l series big brother over in europe, also a dismal failure.

It is the v6 and hasn't had the oil cooler issue, very reliable, fast like stink too. Every new model from any manufacturer has issues that need to be worked out. I worked in the service Dept. of an SSI dealer for 2 and a half years. The L series had issues, but the owners I dealt with loved them.
