I was wondering the same thing about the replies... I'm all for protecting endangered species and stuff, but if the thing was dumb enough (as almost all fish are) to grab onto a hook, let it get what it deserves. If someone is able to hook someone in the hand using money for bait, that person should suffer the same fate... Minus the rope around the tail and towing a 40+ foot boat. And maybe the drowning part, public humiliation would suffice.

however, a shark has nowhere near the intellectual capacity for understanding and rational thought that humans have.

This is the way a shark thinks:
oooh! food. must eat. yum.

This is how a human thinks:
oooh! food, but look, it's attached to a big hook that could cut me, and something awful could happen to me. It's really not worth it.

Saying that a shark get what it deserves is almost on the same level as saying that a mentally retarded person gets what they deserve when they get themselves killed because they simply didn't know any better and couldn't comprehend what was going on.

but yeah, the responses were a bit odd...
