Default My CRAZIEST Ebay experience ever...(read)

Ok...

Sat.night, I was bidding on a pair of Griffey 1's that was on my watched list...the person that was the high bidder is frequent on Ebay; always has OG heat, so I didn't know if the shoe was for him or for resale, but I was like "oh well"..the auction was up to $212, so I bidded $250...still outbid, so I put in $300..still outbid. Now, I'm like "damn!" Then,

$320....
still outbid...
$350....
still outbid...
$375....
still outbid
I'm like "WTF?!"
I bit the big one and put in $415...
STILL OUTBID...
Finally, I give up...I wanted the shoes, but didn't want to pay over $400 for that model.

Then, I go to bid on another auction that I wanted, and the seller was the guy that I was going up against on the Griffey's...

The seller of the 2nd auction BLOCKED MY NAME!!!

Pissed off, I e-mailed the seller of the auction and asked him what the deal was and if it was over the Griffey and told him to call me ASAP....

5 minutes later, my cell phone rings!
We're arguing for about 5-10 minutes over the price of the shoes...he was pissed off that I jacked the auction up that high...I guess he thought that somehow, he was the only one that wanted them! He told me he was pissed..I asked how much he proxy-bidded, and he told me $600! I couldn't believe it!

So, after discussing it, I retracted all my bids on the shoe (think it was still somewhere in the low $300's) and he unblocked my name so I could bid on a few of his auctions!

Has anyone else been through this?!

^^nah, he's not mad...he still got way more than he wanted for them..it closed out at $305.

I had to pick the lesser of 2 evils...the guy who I got into with always sells hot **** ALL THE TIME, and it's always in my size. I didn't want to piss him off because he always has a ton of auctions for the hottest stuff

LOL its all good but it still trips me out to hear you talking about shoes and saying "in the particular model I wanted". Sounds like someone who finally found that mint Supra with the sport roof or something.

yeah, you are! But, you're not alone...shoes, if you know what you're buying, are worth a ton. A lot of times, a shoe will go up in value because..

#1--it's a first issue that's not getting retro'd
#2--it has sentimental value for certain people (as these did for me)
#3--some sort of significance (playoff color, USA edition, only ____ made)

I'll take a first issue Air Jordan 1, produced in 1985...only $65 back then, but since Jordan has become an Icon and the original models are basically impossible to find in deadstock (unlaced and unworn w/orig.box), you then end up with a price like this:

http://www.instyleshoes.com/nikeshoes/4289.htm
http://www.instyleshoes.com/nikeshoes/4299.htm

Take a look at the main page; look at how many members the board has:
http://www.niketalk.com

I would show you a few pairs with $2000 and $2500 stickers, but they're sold out!

Crazy? yes....ridiculous? to some...does it make money? Definitely. Maybe 20% of the money to fix up my car comes from me dealing shoes on the side.
