Default Need radiator advice...ASAP...thanks

Hi guys. Just need one quick bit of advice regarding radiators.

The only rad I can get cost effectively, and today, is a 1993 model brass radiator, whereas I have a 94 Saurn current'y equipped with an aluminum radiator.

Now, I know that brass has the edge on durability, but it tends to cool a little less efficiently. Can y'all think if any issues outside of that? Any known problems. Any fitment issues? Will my 94 SL1, with a 2002 engine hate me for this.

Let me know what you can ASAP. Thanks a bunch!

Jim

You should have no problems with the cooling. Should be no difference between the 93 and 94 rad. I would think that anyless cooling from the fins may be off set by the better heat transfer from the brass tanks.

Good theory wonder if it works? But on the other hand I have never heard that a brass rad is any less efficient than an aluminum one.

I'd go with the brass one.

I don't know if aluminum is more efficient than brass, but I'm about 110% sure that aluminum is cheaper (no doubt that was the deciding factor in switching over).

Aluminum was probably also lighter.

Actually, aluminum is more expensive overall. The rad I got turned out to be aluminum.

There is a difference between 93 and 94 as I discovered tonight. The mounting tabs that stick out of the sides of the rad are a couple of inches lower on the 93 version. And, oh yes, the 94 version (same rad, slightly altered mounting points) costs $60 more.

DAMNIT!!! Oh well, there's always tomorrow.
