Default PC question

ok well the other day i plugged in a 8 in 1 card reader and it made my PC crash. after waiting like 3 hours it finally booted up in the correct way after restarting automatically for those 3 hours now it wont let me open a new window if i click on a link on a website. for example if im looking at the thumbnails of the personal galleries i cant view them unless i type in the URL in the address bar. this pisses me off ALOT!!!! does anyone know why i cant click on a link and have it open in a new window. also if i right click and do open in new window it dont work either.

ASUS CUSL2 motherboard
Celeron 700 processor
80 GB HD
256 MB RAM
windows XP PRO

the MB and celeron was purchased back in xmas 99.

check to make sure the card reader's drivers are installed correctly. check to make sure it's compatible with your system. do a virus scan. run scan disk. disconnect the card reader to see if the problem disappears. let me know.

wow.... a 2 Mhz processor runs XP?? Guess then need to adjust the specs on the box. What processor is that? The celeron 0.002??

Sorry, couldnt resist.

My system kept rebooting like that just before the hard drive went bad. Is the drive making any funny sounds? Mine was ticking continuously.

If it works after disconnecting it, it might be the reader. I cant remember but I wana think that those run off USB 2.0 and not sure if they are backwards compatable with the 1.1 (usual USB). At this point, go back to the store you got it at and tell them of the problem and see if they will let you try a different reader. Good luck.

it's called a virus. sorry man. did you format the computer?

try it. also, if somebody else is having a similar problem, then it's getting to sound more and more like a virus.

my buddy got a virus; it was a destructive one (didn't know they actually existed) screwed up his hd; he had to format the mbr and everything, had to replace his memory and flash his bios. was terrible.

get everything checked out. seriously.
