| pulling a motor For those of you who have pulled their motor out themselves, how difficult of a task is it and what kind of work is involved? |

| We (PJ, Jon, and myself) pulled a motor from a car at the junk yard for Jon's turbo project. Overall the removal was pretty simple. We had an advantage though. We didn't care about the car it was coming out of. So all the hoses and wires that were holding up back got hacked. Aside from the hoses wires and axle removal there are only the three motor mounts holding the motor in the car. I am sure Joey would explain the right why in detail if you ask nicely.

| hey tommy, how was your christmas man?
well its official, eddys going with tkt 0017 (he begged for #20 as it matched his age, lol ok, someone order 3 custom engines QUICK!).
tkt 0017 is going to nbe much like todds engine (#13) non turbo, ross pistons, crower rods, head work, we both agreed cams would be a little much and ed isnt going to juiced her, just a dependable motor with some more ass then stock.
ed, your car is auto so techinicall you COULD go out through the top, some prefer this way.
when we remove motors without hacking them as tom so elequently put it, lol (i hear you though bro, if i have to go to another yard for something im hacking anything and everything, getting what i need and getting out of there!) we have forklifts and such at our disposal, but, if you do want to go out the bottom this can be accomplished with good jack stands and floor jack.
first, remove all the upper hoses, injector plugs, harness plugs etc.
drain all the fluids.
remove the upper motor mount, remove raditor (to protect them, you dont have to but when the motors coming out, either up or out the bottom one wrong move and its saynora radiator) the condensor i would leave in, just give yourself some clearance by removing the rad.
the a/c brackets i remove and zip tie the compressor to the upper rad support, this way you dont lose any freon or have to recharge anything.
remove battery box, air filter box etc, do a quick look around the engine bay to ensure everythings off
jack car way up and put jackstands safely under unibody, you want as much clearance as possible.
remove wheels, you need a 30 mm socket to remove the cv shaft bolts, put bolt back on after lossening a couple of turns, whack with hammer, remove bolt all the way, pull cv shaft out the rest of the way. you can leave them in the tranny end as it will all be coming down with the cradle.
remove exhaust from manifold and take out the section that goes under the engine to the cat.
(now im sure theres LOT im missing, but, as you take the cradle down you do it slowly and look for hoses and such)
get jack under engine in a secure spot, remove the 4 main engine cradle bolts, go down SLOWLY, this way any hoses or harness you (or I) forgot you can remove as you inch it down.
once everythings off and its down you slowly creep out the front of the car (at this point if you dont have enough clearance still you can have somone hold the a/c condensor up out of the way.)
once down two guys can easily move it off the jack, when it sitting there in front of you its MUCH easier to remove the tranny, power steering hoses, etc.
now if you really want to go out the top, i can tell you that way also, but remeber, if going out the top DO NOT attmept to squeezt it by without removing the crank pulley (been there done that as tom would say, psssht, LOL)
ok, anyone that wants feel free to fill in the blanks, im heading to bed~!

| sure thing, I really appreciate the offer. I'm gonna have to stop by the store soon and pick up a good socket set and maybe some more jacks/jack stands. I hope it won't end up being TOO much trouble, I sure as heck don't feel like paying any shops $1000 to do it for me. Besides, I'll be learning something too. |

| I figure about 10 people will be enough to take every single part and yank out the motor in no time, so I need a bunch of help! hehehe, I can get a few friends in on it and once we have the right tools, it could probably be done in a weekend with everyone's help. I'm looking forward to it, I just wish that it was past new years already so my dad would have finished taking care of the loan. |

| Well, Joey says it can take up to 4-6 weeks for some of the parts to arrive, assuming my dad get the loan taken care of RIGHT after New Years (and he better or I'm gonna be quite, quite irritated. He's adding mine onto his, rather than just cosigning) I figure that it would probably be ready sometime in February or early March possibly, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong Joey. |
