Default The search for a new car has *Edit*ended again*/Edit*...

*Old Information, Outdated*

And though I went to the dealer to get a 1997 Saturn SC2... I ended up with a 1999 Mercury Cougar.

2.5L V6, 170 HP, five-speed manual, four wheel disk brakes, power windows/mirrors/locks, and best of all: metallic red exterior on a black/grey interior, the perfect combination.

...And Saturn's are only for retired people. :P

Nah, it's all good, everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I just know I was really impressed with the layout of the car, especially the interior, I think she looks good, plenty of nice features, etc. On top of that, I've never driven a car with a manual trans mated to anything bigger than a 1.9L. I was surprised with how torquey the 2.5L is.

First Ford product I've ever owned, and I must say, it's really not all that bad... In fact, I kinda like it.

pshht i'd give up goldie for a honda, toyota, nissan or just about anything that isn't a kia, hyundai, suzuki or daewoo..

there's nothing wrong with going 'out of the (saturn) loop', especially when you're going to get a car with more power, better styling, and a good ride.

i know we're all saturn people but i mean come on, who here REALLY expects to drive saturns their entire life??

the cougars in my opinion, are styled alot like the 2nd gen eclipses. but they got a better motor (than the base elipse). congradulations, on the new ride, may she serve you well. ive ridden in those a coupple times, theyre not bad cars at all. and they respond very well to tuning. and just a quick question, those are fwd are they not?

I must agree with you on the comment regarding styling to the likes of a second-gen Eclipse. While I never really was a big fan of Eclipses, I will admit the two cars share quite a few styling cues. A tall rear bumper, bubble-like cockpit, hatchback, etc. Oh, and Cougar's can look pretty sharp with a 'Clipse GS-T spoiler on the trunk... As for tuning, I'm not sure what sort of mods I'll be looking at, I haven't really seen alot of major work done to these cars either. I was hoping to find a TSN equivelant for Cougars/Contours, but alas, not yet. I guess a few of the Contour SVT parts can be swapped over though, intake manifolds and such. It howls nicely with the stock intake, so I'm wondering what it'd sound like with cold air. I was also surprised how rev-happy it is for being a six-banger. And unfortunately, yes, they're front wheel drive.

Handling wise, I'd have to say there's some room for improvement. It's better than a stock SC2, but not quite up to par with Lindsey (97 SC2 with Eibachs). I was impressed with the ride the Eibach springs provided on my SC2, so I think I'll go with them again on this one, as the cash flow allows.

I'll have to take some personal pics with all the stickers and stuff out of the windshield. The dealer's photos just don't do her justice...

Decent car but I'm not to thrilled with them. A guy at the office has one (2.5L auto) and I'm wrenching on it about every other weekend. It took 10 hours to swap out the alternator, and now I get to replace both O2 sensors and the intake gasket cuz it leaks. Granted theirs has about 115K on the clock but my SL2 (167k) seems to be holding up better than theirs is.

Good luck with it.
