| Should I get an SC2 or a different car? Alright I was going to get an SC2 last year, but I decided to save and get a better car this year. Well things didn't go as planned, so I don't have too much money to spend. I don't even need a different car, but I think it would be nice to have a manual. So I can spend probably $4,000 max.
I was thinking of a 2nd gen SC2, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions for that price range. I don't really like older cars and I like decent gas mileage.
EDIT: Or I suppose I could do a tranny swap, but I don't know anything about trannies (actually I don't know about any car stuff really ) |

| I think the choice of what car to buy should be up to you.
For the record I got my 98 sc2 with 80k miles for 4k from a dealer friend of mine
No problems at all, sunroof, and with a thermal exhaust already on it.

| what car do you have now, and in what condition? Tranny swap hasn't been too bad for me so far... though I'm certainly taking my time at it. lol |

| It all depends on what you're looking for, but you addressed that to a certain extent, it seems
If you're looking for performance, I wouldn't.
If you're looking for a quick car that handles alright and gets good gas mileage out of the box, then yessir, I would. Also given the fact that you have the habit of beating the snot out of your cars and not taking care of them...Saturns take abuse pretty well, as long as you keep oil in them and don't spin the tires.
I would never drop $4k on a Saturn. I paid $6500 for my 2000 SC1 and I kick myself every time I see a nicer one go for $2000 private party.
You were looking last year, and the best advice I gave you was...don't settle...wait until you find something you really want.

The tranny swap hasn't been too bad for you because you are smart |

Performance doesn't matter too much, but I was hoping the SC2 would maybe handle better than my SL1. My SL1 doesn't feel too solid when taking corners fast. This is also why I thought it would be better to get an SC2 instead of doing a tranny swap. Is there really much difference in handling though?
EDIT: I just looked at KBB - LINK and I guess you guys are right, I shouldn't have to spend $4,000. I just thought last year when I was looking, it was hard to find a nice one for around $3k. |

| Before I have the car I have now, I had a 97 SL2. I think the SC2 handles better but not by much. The wheel bases are the same but the SC2 is slightly lighter and has higher fuel cut off.
