Default Someone Help me quick, PLEASE

So I'm putting my new springs on my car right. After a few trips to the local auto parts store to get the right tools I'm going good. So I got the first strut assy. back together with the new spring and WTF...the spring is loose. It is not tight like the stock one was. I noticed the new spring is shorter. I didnt think it was supposed to be shorter. Did they give me the wrong springs or is this normal? Help me please.

I have personally never lowered a car or seen a lowering spring next to a stock spring, but my guess is that if its a lowering spring, wouldn't it be shorter?

I would think they are shorter and more firm, thats how you get the lowering effect and the stiffer ride.

Thanks but I need to know, from someone who has mowered a car, if its supposed to be loose: as in, it fits against both end of the strut properly, bbut it';s not tight, so you can move it.

It is possible that the spring will be loose when assembled. It will all depend on the type of spring you installed and the shape the struts are in. A good brand new strut will hold the spring more than a worn out strut. It is nothing to be worried about. Unless your struts are completely blown. I have the Carrera coilovers on my car and when I jack up the car I have about 2 inches of movement with my spring.

On a side note, if you notice a popping sound coming from suspension when you turn don't be alarmed. It is the spring jumping around in the perch a little. Nothing to be worried about. The pesty noise can be cured by adding a little bit of grease between the perch and the spring. If you need any other help with this matter feel free to email me directly. www.twoltrsl2@angelfire.com

Thank you for your help. I was hoping to hear from you as it was your directions I have been using to install the springs. Now that I think of it I really didnt need them though. It was mostly common sense. I guess having that play will actually be good. No need to worry about compressing the spring to change the struts. Once again thank YOu. I should have the whole car finished tomorrow and I'll take a pic, though the car wont be at its lowest yet.

Yeah the springs may take a little time to settle. You will also notice a difference in height from the time to lower the car from the jacks to the first trip around the block. You hit the nail on the head about lowering a car being common sense, but that is not somewthing everyone has.

Glad to be of help

Tis true.....I had some play in my springs when I put them on. When u get them on the car and lower it back down, you won't have that problem. I was concerned with the strange noises too when I put them on, but you get used to that after a while.

I knew there wouldnt be a problem once the car was down, nut I thought that play might not be good. What if I go over a bug hump in the road and get airborn and the spring twist around?????????
