Default is suicide a sin?

his family was planning on moving this weekend. new home, different part of town. last saturday, they were all going up to look at the house they were moving to. he said he wasn't feeling well and asked to stay home.

i didn't know the family but since they go to my church......tomorrow around 10am, i'm going to be seating people for a 14 year old kid's funeral.

nobody had any clue the kid had it in him. all american kid from an all american family. he was active in the church, helped at youth camps, student counsel, state wrestling champ in his division, boy scout. nobody knew a thing.

my belief has always been that you can't ask forgiveness in advance then knowingly commit the sin. also, if you haven't honestly asked God for forgiveness for everything before you die, the afterlife's not going to be a whole lot of fun. suicide is a sin. does this otherwise great kid go to hell for a single act that he can't ask forgiveness for?

if you're his parents and have always felt the same way, how do you look at a picture of your son and not just be overwhelmed with anger and just bottomless sadness?

what in the world is so hopeless to a kid with such a great family that he feels this is the only way out?

i've been helping out with some of the youth at my church. last sunday i just looked at all of them and thought "who knows? one of these kids?"

That is truely a terrible thing. Suicide is acutally known to be one of the worst sins there are, because its basically slapping God in the face for giving you life. I guess all you can do is pray that he has a good heart....

someone is gonna hate me for this, but.... You are your own person, if you chose to take your own life by committing suicide, then so be it. It is your choice to do that, but people always look down on someone that does it.

Sorry to hear of your loses. It's ironic that just 5 minutes ago I e-mail (for the first time) an old friend whose a minister to say thanks for thinking of me ( he asked my mom how i was) and then I read this post . Its hard to imagine what can drive someone take thier own life, we all got problems some bigger than others but everyone has um. If you feel you can't deal with it please DO GET HELP!!! There are people who care and can help.I also know someone who took his own life. its a harsh empty feeling to go through when this happens. thanks for "listening" to my ramblings. ericb talk to your s/s kids let them know how you feel and listen to what they say too. i was a s/s teacher once myself. travis, sorry for your loss too man, hang in there dude

the permant solution to the temporary problems in life takes another.

In the terms of wiether hes going to hell or not, commide suicide is actually like 3 sins by definition. It's murdering yourself, Not embracing gods gift of life, and starying from the lord. I'm not a religious man by any means but I had my share of this problem witnessing a suicide, and finding a friend that had killed himself.

The question to be ask is what where his final intentions, what was he thinking or what did he say to god before he decide it was all to much for him, Why did he not seek the help of others, and many more questions that only the one that pass on can possiably answer.

The is no real good reason to commide suicide, this is coming from someone who is techincally clinially suicidial, it's not so much that we search for a reason it's honestly just the first thing that seem to slove all the problems. It's hard to explain why and how my brain looks at the world to people so I'm not going to try and bore you all, but when a person who has the capiability to commide suicide, lays in bed at night there is only one quick way to slove all the worlds problems, to elimate yourself as a factor in them.

It honestly sucks to think this way but more and more young teenagers do. In our society where there quick fixes to everything by taking pills, or not eating carbs, suicide it becuase more and more a quick fix to all the problems at once.

I hope everyone that knew the young man in question takes a step back for a second and realizes that it's not there fault, all the can do is pray for him (if your in to that) and live your life.

I wish you all the best and anything that I can shed light on for you feel free to ask, i've been through it a number of times in my life

most people look down on it because its the easy way out! Instead of getting the help they need or fighting through whatever got them to the point of wanting to die they pussy out and kill them selves. Im sorry if that sounds mean. and yes it is a sin its a total disrespect to god!

One would think that to believe suicide is a sin, you'd first have to believe in sins and God and all that entails, right?

But to put in into a theological/psychological perspective, maybe those who judge suicide to be a sin should consider some of the possible mitigating factors.

We, as a species, have an incredibly strong will to survive. Wouldn't you expect that if someone had an urge to kill themselves that it might point to a genetic or mental defect of some kind?

With that in mind, how can one be judged for committing a sin if they're suffering from an inherent defect? Could this defect be traced somehow to God's design for our species? After all, he used himself as a blueprint. In such a case, who's fault or sin would it be then? Certainly not the afflicted individuals.

Combine the above possibilities with raging teenage hormones, society's various ills, and the human ability to articulate emotions and thoughts, and you've got a lot of different reasons why someone might choose to commit that sin. (That's right, sin, not sins You're soooo judgemental!)

I'm just trying to help you think outside the book, in my opinion, people are just ****ed up.
