Default synthetic oil vs regular oil

I have a question for anyone in the know, Synthetic vs. regular (dino) oil. I always hear that synthetic oil is good. But I also hear that regular oil should be used during the break in period after something is rebuilt. I just rebuilt my turbo. Is synthetic oil ok to use during the break in period? I currently run Mobil One synthetic oil. I hear that it is ok to go from regular to synthetic, but not the other way around. Does anyone know why this is? I have never read anything about it, just people telling me it’s not good to do. Since running synthetic oil the motor seems noisier. Can I switch back? Notice everything I said was all “HEAR SAY”. Does anyone have proof? Anyone have the answers to my questions

Synthetic's okay to use.

Hell, Vette's come with Mobil 1 Syntech from the factory. So why the hell not? We're running it on my dad's sup 7K motor.

My dealership told me once you switch to Synethic that is not good to switch back. Something about the lubrication being stripped from the bearings or something. I am usinf Synthetic oil now.

im using only 5w30 in my car. it is what was recommended from the manufacturer and that is all I wil use. Ive heard many horror stories about both oils. Regular oil has parafins or something an that is harmfull, and synthetic harms certain parts of the engine.

So i use Valvoline oil only. 5w-30. My first generation pre-95SL1 only burns one quarter of a quart a month (about 3000 miles) not bad at all for having 160,000 miles on it.

here at 6th we do not recomend or use synthetic, im not some rocket scinetest nor have i conducted formal tests BUT we have found during informal polls that saturns run on synthetic actually turn out to be oil burners more so then ones run on regular dino! yes its true.
and yes i know all the arguments about syn being oh so good, but saturns are not precisley engineered cars, and we have found that the recomended factory wieght is bad for them also, dealerships use 5-30 or 10-30, i have seen MANY MANY saturn that when switched to 10-40 DROPPED THEIR OIL CONSUMPTION IN HALF, now its been well know for years that heavier oil will reduce oil consumption, dealerships use the thinnest oils possible for FUEL ECONOMY, period. going to a 20-50 is only recomended in severe case such as when burning more then two quarts between changes.

in the 01 since its damn near brand new go with 10-30 for now, at 50k go with 10-40 and stay there.
in the summers you can go straight 30 which is best, then straight 40 after 50-60k.

Any facts about switching from synthetics back to regular oil. I would like some proven info, not hear say. Can't always trust the mechanics, but thanks for the info Evan. It gives my something to go on.
