Default What breaks a car?

Why is it bad for my car to spin its tires? I know that the differential pin will fly out and "do something bad" but why? And why is it bad to shift up from Low to Drive (2, 3, D) in an Automatic? What exactly happens to the transmission that is "bad" for it? And is drifting REALLY bad for the car (and why)?

And is there anything else I "shouldnt" do to my engine, besides crash it, soak it, and over-rev it?

Just a few questions I have.

Upshifting in an automatic shouldn't hurt it as long as you're not revving it past what it'd normally do... It's downshifting it at high speeds that can really mess stuff up...

you have an open differential.
your tranny wasn't made for wheel sping
drifting in a FWD car is pretty hard unless you can e-brake like a pro. It puts lots of stress on tires/sidewalls brakes suspension and everything between. As for upsifting, refer to sattylacs post.

As for "shouldn't do" anything you'll be embarassed to tell the mechanic you did. I.E. "i drove into a tree" or "I filled the gas with oil instead" stupid stuff like that. Just drive as if your mom were in the car.

Use 100% water as coolant, or use all Antifreeze and no water.

If you use 100% water, parts will corrode, and the water pump will get inadequate lubrication.

If you use 100% coolant, the anti-corrosive chemicals will not activate, filling your radiator with crud.

Use no air filter.
If you drive without an air filter, all the dust and other contaminents will get inside your engine, forming buildup in your intake manifold and causing friction on the piston rings. Also, really large particles can damage pistons and spark plugs.

Revving past the safe limit.
When that happens, the rod bolts will be stressed, and may break. that will cause a windowed block. Other times, the valves "Float" (don't close properly) and then they hit the pistons. Look at engines with snapped timing belts for similar results. The effect is truly disasterous.

Running extra lean. This happens when a supercharger or N2O is added, without adequate fuel enrichment. The gasoline combusts violently and causes major damage to pistons and headgaskets.

use sand as gas, transmission fluid, antifreeze, washer fluid.

JUST DON'T USE SAND ANYWHERE!

Hmm....

Well then, what do I need to listen for if I might have made my diff pin fly out? I have had low-tread tires for the past month and have been doing burnouts, hard breaking, and sliding around on just about every sharp turn. I even locked it in 2nd and did a 40mph burnout in the rain. If you compound this to neutral-dropping from 4000RPM's and sliding the car sideways across a concrete divider on its undercairrage, how long do you think it will take for something like my tranny to seriously break?

-Cool-

P.S: I know all this is very very bad, and I vow to stop. If its any consolation, the car has survived all of this with no noticable damage.

Neutral drops from any RPM above idle is bad! 4,000 RPMs is insanity! Do you hate your car or something?

I'm not sure if insurance would cover a transmission is the mechanic tells them it's taken much more abuse than the car's milage would offer...

Tire gloss helps spin the tires easier.
