Default What web host to use?

Hey guys and gals I'm looking for a website host. I want my own .com. What host would you guys suggest? I want to have a descent sized site, its going to have a forum, some pics of cars and such. I'd be willing to pay about 10-12 bucks a month, as its not going to be a really big deal, just something for me to play with mostly .

So I have no idea what size site I would need, how much bandwidth (is that how much can be downloaded from the site at one time?) and such. Anyone know of a particurarly nice webhost in that price range?

How much does it cost to have a site that performs like Saturnspot with this kind of bandwidth and everything?

For SaturnSpot.com here are the stats:

Server Allows Me To Have:
10 GB Bandwidth/Month
500 MB WebSpace
Unlim Email
5 MySQL Databases

Usage:
7 GB Bandwidth/Month
30 MB WebSpace
2 MySQL Databases

Okay, but remember, you have to buy your domain name (.com) also, and that is usually seperate from the hosting. You can purchase one from godaddy.com for like $10/year. Sometimes though, you can purchase hosting and the domain name all with the same company, depends really what you'd like to do.

Go register your domain name first.....I pay $7.00 a year for my name, which is a steal. The hosting I have my site on now is on a freeserver, which is ok for now, but I'm soon moving it, so I can get rid of the pop-up ads and it can be of my own design.

Ahh, I didn't see your post Brett......godaddy.com is where I bought my domain name from.....they charged my $7 for the name and $1 for the forwarding, which isn't bad, but I wouldn't buy hosting through them.

Darn you guys are fast. I just posted that this morning lol and its still this morning. Thanks for those Stats Brett, that will help a ton. I appreciate it peeps. 7 bucks a year for the name sounds great. I don't anticipate nearly the amount of traffic as this site gets, its just like a club site or something so to speak.

I get over 100 hits on my site a day, and well, it came with about a half a gig of bandwidth for free, which was ok in the beginning, but now I'm actually paying about $2 a month for an extra gig, because the site lately has been "closing due to exceding maximum bandwidth".....LOL.

Wow thats cool dude. So how does the bandwidth thing work? It will allow like .5 gigs of info to be downloaded a month and then shut down or how does bandwidth work?

Hits is way different than visits. I think you may have mistaken it with visits.

The best way I can think of describing hits.. is everything that was accessed is a hit.. like every file.. etc.

What annoys me:
People claim they get millions of hits, but thats nothing. Just last month SaturnSpot.com received around 1,000,000 hits. Seems like alot but its nothing, it came down to around 10,000 visits that month. Its a big number difference, but many people just think that a hit is a visit.

You're right Brett.....I was flipping the terminology there a bit.....LOL. It's usually about 60-70 visits a day, and over 100 hits.

The bandwidth is basically the allotment of how many times your page is viewed, because it is constantly being transferred, it takes up bandwidth. So, the more hits you get on your page, the more times the page is transferred from it's host to the users computer, in turn, racking up the bandwidth. That make sense?
