| who remembers the incident at TMI? Ok I know this is for most of the "older" folks . I don't technically remember it, cause I AM a TMI BABY. My mom was pregnant with me during the whole incident. I remember when I turned 18 my mom got a survey in the mail asking all kinds of questions about her and Me. the one question that sticks out most to me is the "does your child have any deformations/abnormalities/retardation? I said "ooo ooo oooo I WE TODD IT." My house is about 3 miles from TMI by the way the bird flies. Just curious if any of you all remember it. |

| Let's see......that was back in 79, so I was 4 years old. I seem to remember news on TV about 5 years after the accident about the cleanup of TMI, and I also remember them saying it was the worst nuclear power plant accident in US History. That worries me a bit......I'm inbetween 2 nuke plants. TMI being one of them, and the one down outside of Pottstown. If anything ever goes wrong at either one, I'm screwed.

| Mikey I live 3 miles from TMI, and about 25 miles from PEACH BOTTOM. so I'm also screwed too. hehe. a word of encouragement though, there are only 45 operating nuclear power plants in the USA. oddly enough i think they said like 12 of them are in PA. Not sure of the exact number but PA is high on the list. Ok...TMI's accident would have NEVER happened if the guys who kept an eye on the plant would have let it do what it was suppose to do. they thought it wasn't gonna re-fill with water, so they manually made it do it which caused the problem. They were afraid of a melt down and which in return almost caused one. the plant was designed that once it got low on water and things started to heat up, the valves automatically opened up to let more water in. Anyways just thought i'd let you know. |

| The one closest to me is Limrick which is between here and philly.....what scares me about that is that you can drive right in, during the day, or late at night and walk right up to the big cooling towers. The reactor building though is heavily guarded and surrounded by 3 electric fences with the stage 3 barbed wire around it. Let's just be glad that the TMI incident didn't turn out to be like Chernobyl.

| yep about nuclear power plants. basiccly it said if the reactor overheated to much the core would melt through the floor and melt it's way all the way to china.
