Default why block out plates

Just curious when people show pictures of their cars, why do they block out the plates? What's the point?

When you park in a parking lot, do you put a little piece of paper of the plate so you can't see it? I can go outside right now and tell you about 30 plate numbers.

Can someone explain this?

My guess is taht it brings attention to the car. If you were to piss someone off on the internet and they lived near you and saw a pic of your car with the plates and saw it one day they might mess with it, just because. Now if the car is highly modded on the exterior then it doesnt make a difference nabout the plate cuz the car already sticks out.

I believe the reasoning behind it is similar to when you tell someone not to do something...If you see a bunch of kids down the street throwing snowballs at eachother and you put up a sign outside, "Dont throw snowballs at the house," what do you think they're going to do? Now, they hadn't already thought of doing it but since they saw the sign, their inherent rebellious nature decided to defy it.

I know I use to do it because I thought you were suppose to do that. All the pics I saw always had it blocked off, but I had the same thought you had of it being dumb. But now that I have a custom plate I like to leave it in the pics. Besides my car is hard to miss even if you don't know my plate number.

My plate's personalized anyway, so I prefer to show it off. I don't block out my plate anymore

As a rule, when people show their cars on the internet, they talk about all the mods done to those cars.

If you're a thief, and someone shows you a way to find out where to find the location of those goodies, you're gonna go for it.

Don't show the plate, car's hard to find.

LOL thats why I think alot of people do it. Especially if they have expensive sound systems or other electronics that are a target for theives anyways. In a big city like LA or NY or somewhere like that you're far more likely to have someone come on the site from your area and might see what all you have in your car.
