Default Why I love the 1st Amendment

I can say things like, "**** off asshat" to my preacher.
I can tell a retarded kid to quit being stupid.
I can call up my local state representative and tell him he's a complete moron.
I can say to my Commanding Officer, "Your rules are bull****, sir." (not that I ever would)
I can tell a fat chick to not be fat.

Reasons such as these make me proud to be an American. Are these reasons insensitive? Yeah...yeah they are. Do I give a **** what you think about it? No, not really. Think about it folks, we live in a society that says it's ok to say whatever we want. Granted, there are pussy organizations like the FCC that says when things like this are said over the radio or on tv (we won't go into that debate) it's deemed inappropriate. What the ****? Where in some countries you're shot for saying you don't like the current leader, but God forbid someone here in America says he wants to toss Jenna Jameson's salad...

There's really no point to this thread, in case you've not figured it out. I'm just in one of those moods to go off on a random tangent about the freedom of speech. That, and I haven't been to the Spot in a while and I think I have like 20 posts or something. So with that, I'm going to leave you with some wonderful insight...you all are *****es.

Ta.

Look, the FCC needs to choke on a turd.
They contributed to the fall the Bubba The LoveSponge show.

Every day when I am in traffic, I get more road rage, because I can't have any funny jokes. Instead I get crappy DJs.

Anyway, I signed the petition at stopfcc.com and hopefully they will stop ending all the good stuff on the radio.

Hell, if we don't act, even an innuendo like "Maid Service" will be grounds for a $1,000,000 fine.

It gets scary when redifining profanity is acceptable.
Once that happens, we could go the way of an information-controlled society.

EDIT: Also, have any of you guys seen that South Park episode about the Iraq War? The one where they said things about how cool it is to argue?

I forget which Supreme Court Justice said it, but the quote was "I know profanity when I see it, but I can't define it". This left it up to the states to define exactly what "profanity" was/is.

Now, the First Amendment does protect profanity (pornography isn't illegal, is it?). It certainly protects your right to publish whatever you want, etc. However, it may not necessarily protect profanity in public places. Another quote comes to mind:

"The First Amendment was not intended to allow someone to stand up and scream "FIRE!" in a crowded theatre"

My ass they did. The radio station dropped him to cover their own ass because they were scared, the FCC never said "stop playing Howard Stern or else".

Howard's home station is based in NY (WXRK, 92.3), and they've repeatedly made it clear that Howard Stern isn't going anywhere as far as they're concerned He's still on every morning, and throughout the day they play a quick clip that says something like "K-Rock, proud to be the home of Howard Stern"
