| Why is Rap music hated so much? Seriously, why is rap music so hated upon by others? I've seen on a few boards discussions about music, and rap is always at the bottom of the list, and I'm just curious to know why is it hated so much, when the people that hate it know so little about it. I've yet to see an intelligent response on why..only stuff like "it sucks" or other pointless phrases such as it's "it's ghetto" and "it's all about bling-bling" (who even uses the word "bling" anymore? lol).
I urge everyone to turn off MTV, BET and the radio, borrow a rap CD from a friend (or even download a track or 2) NOT from the well-known artists (Biggie and Pac...they always get respected regardless) and really listen to the words and decypher the lyrics. Sure, some songs are filled w/violence and degrading comments towards women and society, but isn't rock music?! |

| Why is country music hated so much?
I don't like rap, that's pretty simple, isn't it?
And for the record, I do use the word bling

| Why I hate rap:
I have to listen to it coming out of a Jeep 4 miles away all the time. Way too loud.
The bass shaking my car is irritating.
I don't like swearing blasting in my face.
I don't like the ideas that rap conveys (drugs, sex, violence, bad language)
I don't like any music that screams or yells at me with profanities.
If there is a good rap song with lyrics that actually mean something and there is an actual talent behind the music then I wouldn't have a problem with it. My g/f tries to listen to some of that garbage in my car sometimes, but it's just profanity about stuff not related to us. Why is a middle class white girl listening to music about growing up on the streets, having sex and doing drugs? Is it supposed to send a message?
I'm generalizing a bit, I don't hate all rap, just the crap that the middle class white boys around here listen to. Although I do hate ALL Eminem...we have to lose a decent guy from the old school rappers, but no one will shoot Eminem in the head? Come on....

| i don't care for rap or country. rap music to me requires little talent and a lot of hard-headedness. all they do is stand there on the stage with a microphone and rhyme. it's cool and all, but it's not as skillful to me as going to a band and seeing someone blast some guitar or some drums or something. country i just don't like the style. the voice and the twangy guitars and the cowboy hats . . . especially the cowboy hats . . . unless it's a cowgirl . . . hehehe i dunno, rap just doesn't make me flow. rock does. |

Come on.... | in response to that, all music (rock, rap, R&B, etc) has bass in it...i've got R&B songs that have more bass than rap CD's, and you don't necessarily have to be in that "environment" to appreciate the music. If you're middle class, I actually prefer that you DO listen to that type of music, so you know that's it's not as pretty as you think it is out there and let you know what's up.
The same message that SOME rap music conveys (sex, drugs, violence), our beloved ROCK music has done for YEARS. Also, with the type of posts I've seen people type on this board and others, profanity should def.not even be an issue. No one on here is a saint when it comes to that! |

| I don't know if I neccesarily dislike rap so much as a dislike the culture surrounding it. Sort of in the same way that I disliked the culture of the pinheads who listened to death metal when I was in high school.
It's one of those cultures that's loud and brash, tries to be intimidating, but just ends up on the floor after a while.
There is some rap that I really have liked over the years. In my opinion, there is no topping a group like Public Enemy for getting a message out, pushing it the right way, and being generally correct about it. None of this bling bling lifestyle bull****, just hard hitting reality. Chuck D is now doing speaking tours, and is gaining a lot of respect in the acedemic and political worlds. Some lame jackasses like 50 Cent are just gonna end up in the gutter, or better yet, in prison.
