| Windshield removal day Everybody pray that I don't mess this up, okay? The subject of this post says it all.
I'll be picking up my new windshield tools today and visiting the local pull-a-part to attempt extraction of a windshield. I've cut these things out before, but never on a Saturn. Wish me luck, folks.
I'll let you all know how it turns out. |

| Just take your time and be very careful removing it. They can be a real pain on Saturns. |

| Well, the body supply place didn't get my tool order in at noon. Instead they got me only a spool of windshield wire at about 3 PM. Too late in the day to get to the salvage yard and pull my replacement glass. However, I did manage to remove my broken windshield without cracking it any further. I think that's a good sign.
This morning I will be prepping my car by repairing some rust damage on the pinchweld and doing a bit of painting. Then I'll go retrieve my replacement glass and install it.
Keep your fingers crossed. |

| Well, the one I wanted to pull had a hole in it by the time I got back to it. Damn salvage yard vandals.
So, I found a mildly damaged one to remove which came out pretty easy. The problem is that a stone chip in it caused a crack right up the middle of the window during the test fit. Crapola! That's it for pull-a-part windows. There's not another windshield around for 200 miles, now. I guess I'll be without a car until another good donor turns up at the salvage yard. |

| Just FYI, when I had to get my roof replaced and they took out the windshield, there was some kind of problem with using the original rubber seals that go all the way around again and they had to order a whole new windshield b/c they couldn't get them separately. It was a giant paint in the ass. I hope you have more luck!

| In my '94 I got a crack in my windshield on my roadtrip out to Cali. My insurance actually paid to get it replaced (thank God for a $250 deductable) because new Saturn windshields run anywhere from $600-$1200. Apparently out of all the cars, they're the biggest pains in the ass to get installed. Proof: The guy came to my house to install it, broke the new one, and I had to let my car sit overnight w/out a windshield in it until he got another new one. Let's just say he wasn't very professional with his language according to my mom.

| Well, I do know how to successfully remove a first generation coupe windshield without damaging either the glass or trim. Took me a good while to figure out how not ot screw up the trim at the top of the windshiled, but once you know how to do it, they pop out fast and clean. The onei removed at the salvage yard earlier today took me only five minutes to cut out using wire and I didn't leave a single mark on the trim.
Oh, yeah. I'm good. I'm sooo good.
In other news, I did find a local yard with a good piece of glass for 100 bucks. The problem is that they know nothing of Saturn windshields and plan to remove it themselves. I just know that if they do it, they're gonna screw it up. I'm going to do my best to convince them to let me pull it myself so that it comes out in one piece. |

| So, tell us how you did it, k? Did you use the wire trick? Where'd you put it through to start the cut? I just gotta know.
