Default Woot, Another V8.

Alice joined the family today...

1970 Chevrolet CST-10 (350)

The good:

She's in better overall shape than I'd imagined when viewing the ad.
Very little rust.
Runs and drives like a charm.
Picked her up for $1,500, rather than the $1,650 asking price.
Four new shocks, and relatively new dual exhaust (with H-pipe and tips).
Parts are actually really easy to find. I guess these years are somewhat popular.
She hasn't been chopped into for anything, the dash hadn't even been cut up for a stereo.

The bad:

While they work just fine, I feel that the four-wheel drum brakes are inadequate. Front disks are apparently an easy swap due to later year trucks/SUV's having direct replacements.
She leaks a bit of oil.
The NOS floor mats have got to go.
The odometer cable is stuck, thus causing the speedometer to make an annoying click every 1/10 of a mile.
For a 350, she's one hell of a gutless wonder, haha. I think my Saturn SC2 might actually accelerate with more gusto.
The paint needs to be redone. The windshield needs to be replaced due to cracks, and the driver's side window due to pitting (it almost looks like someone sandblasted it, ha, that's AZ for you).

All-in-all, I can't say I regret it one bit. I've been wanting a truck again ever since trading in my Blazer (which was a POS, but did work well for hauling stuff). Now I've finally got one, and one with some old-school style as well.

Alright, now for the pictures...

Photobucket Linkage.

Good for you =D
I looove me some cars... "project" cars are the BEST!

My BF bought me a 95 Celi GT for $400 cuz she's got a blown head gasket. She's in some shoddy shape now (severe body damage, smashed out back hatch, mismatched panels, tore up interior and cracked windshield.) She's chilling in a driveway under 2 tarps (so she doesn't rust) and calling for me.... I wish I wasn't working 60+ hours a week =( When I do have free time I'm spending it with my new family =D Eventually she'll be a mean mean beast.... eventually =)

GOOD LUCK and CONGRATS!

Good nab on the truck. I had a 71 Chevy with the 396, was loads of fun. Goto www.lmctruck.com and that is a great place for parts to the truck. If i were you one of the first things i would do is get a Edelbrock 600 electric choke carb, you will have nothing but problems from your quadrajunk...i mean quadrajet carb. If you have any questions or need any help I restored one in 2000 and sold it a few years ago.

Good luck, and great deal.

67-72 trucks are easily the best trucks ever made. My buddy has a 72 with a 408 pushing 500 hp that he runs in the mud races (drag races, but in like 3 inches of mud). He runs it in "factory stock" and cleans house every weekend. It doesn't do crap in the mud bogs (mud like a foot deep or more in places) only goes like 50 feet and it needs pulled out, but it hauls butt in the drags.

Congrats Randy. I just purchased a 72 dodge pu with a 400 in it. Got it for a C-note. major body rust, but a killer running motor. Luckily around here I can pick up a decent shell for cheap.

Hehe, funny you mention your dad had one, mine had one as well. Though I was really young when he had it, I remember it was red, loud, sucked gas, and looked mean.

mkbuker, you're not the only one who's told me that Quadrajet carbs (aka Rottenchester, Quadrajunk, etc.) are no good, but I've honestly had nothing but good experiences with them thus far. My Cadillac still has the factory Q-Jet, and this truck seems to run just fine with it as well.

However, I don't plan on doing any work to the 350 that's currently in there... I've big bigger plans in that department... Stay tuned for updates.
