Default 2002 SL Suspension Questions

So I just got a 2002 SL and I think that it needs some upgrades...some personal touches, as it were.

I'm thinking of getting some upgraded suspension and a new set of tires/wheels.

For the suspension, i think that on tirerack.com they have the HR lowering kit for around 200.00, and the KYB replacement struts i'm sure i can find for a good deal.
As for the wheels, I'm looking for something a little bit larger in diameter, (16-17") and a little wider. Whats a good size of wheel, nothing too big cause i might be doing some autocrossing this summer, and offset to get that good look and nice stance and still have improved handling.
Oh yeah, a rear sway bar is also on my to do list, as soon as i can get someone to weld some brackets for me...
Thanks in advance guys(and gals)!
Smile

You can find springs used on various saturn forums for cheaper than that....I got mine for $75 shipped.

The KYB's are on eBay, $175 shipped for a set of 4.

The SOHC is slow enough, you definitely don't want to slow it down any more with a big, heavy wheel. 15's will be the fastest, 17's will look the best, 16's are in between. Try and find a lightweight 16x7 wheel.

I've heard mixed reviews on the KYBs....that they really arent any stiffer than the stock struts? Anything on this? Would i be better off just getting the springs to lower the car, and keep the stock struts without upgrading them, i mean aside from replacing them when needed.

And for the wheels, any suggestions for stock manufactured ones like from Hondas or VWs or something? After market brands that work well?

The fronts are definitely stiffer, the backs, maybe not so much. I've heard good reviews on the springtech struts. If money is a problem, at least do the front two KYB.

Not sure on factory wheels, but Konig Heliums come in both 15" and 16" and are very light.
