Default 5th gear?


Ok, i was wondering. When im on the high way and doing around 75MPH. my car is doing about 3200 RPM? is that alot, is there a way i can make it turn lower RPMS for better gas? Just wondering..thanx

Sounds like an Sx2 for sure.


You can swap a SOHC tranny. I'm about 2k-2.5k at 75MPH.

The SC2 has a DOHC, and from the power band you're describing it is the DOHC, same as mine.

Ok,if i do swap out the tranny from an SOHC to my DOHC will everything fit right and am i going to lose or gain power/HP?

You still have the same engine... How could you possibly lose horsepower by swapping to another manual transmission?

However, your car will have slower acceleration with the longer gearing.

I find it as a decent tradeoff. The car might be slower off the start, but I don't have to shift as often, engine (and exhaust/intake) noise is lowered due to turning lower RPMs at highway speeds, and gas milage is slightly increased (though only a minor improvement).
