crush is less expensive, but loses diameter at the crush point reducing the effective flow rate of the pipe. mandrel bends have consistent diameter, allowing higher flow than an equivalent diameter crush bend pipe.

The rule of thumb is that a 2.5" crush-bent pipe should be about equal to a 2.25" mandrel bent pipe.

Volume wise, yes, it is a viable cash strapped solution.

But it'll never have the same flow characteristics.

Mandrel all the way. Car **** isn't somethin you wanna skimp on.

Open up the phone book and start calling muffler shops as well as custom shops. Ask if they'll make a mandrel bent exhaust system for your car. Cheapest and fastest way, plus you'll have a selection of a lotta mufflers to fit your needs.
