No, if you get a whole assembly the it changes the pivot point of your entire shifter, if you just like the look then all you do is cut it off but it isn't a real "short shifter".

I'll be making real ones as well, just I'll be doing it without all the welding crap.

I think on the next batch I'm going to just drill the hole in the shaft lower instead of welding in a spacer, but I don't see how you can extend the L arm without welding it up.

The theory (and actuality) behind the short shifter is this. If you move a fulcrum pivot point towards your end of the lever. Lengthen the far end, and shorten your end. You will now have to move less to get the same effect as before, but you'll now have to exert more force to do so.

well...chopping it makes the throws shorter--and stiffens up the stick shift. sooo--I I wouldnt think there would be much of a difference from what I have now. All I did was chop off about 3 1/2 inches and it definately shortened up the throws...AND stiffened up the stick A LOT.

try this.... get a pen or pensil.... hold it with one hand just above the tapered part.... with the taper pointing down... move the top part holding it at the very top and see how much the point moves... then hold it closer to the tip and do the same thing.... then move your steady hand higher and hold the way top again and move it.....

see the difference?

thanks Professor

I wonder how much just shortening the shaft affects the throw. I'm to tired to do the math now, but a true short shifter makes it about 50% less

It took about 3 inches or more (guess, it's been forever since I've done it) from gate to gate.
