Default just got an s series

so my girlfriend and I just bought a 97 s series i think, sohc 1.9?

so, this thing is slow... slow slow slow slow. it seams like saturn tunes them for torque and there is some moving power there but goes nowhere above like 4000 rpm. there's just no point..

so, i know nothing about these cars, but i'm assuming its the cam.

what sort of things can you do to boost these little engines to a more comfortable power level? and we're not gonna spend a million dollars to make it a race ready 130hp engine, hahaa. just cheap mods that wake it up a little... i'm a DIY'er.

Yep. That pretty much sums it up. Falls on it's face on the high RPMs.

You have an SC1....or an SL1. Either way, if speed is an issue, you should have held out for an SC2 or SL2. Those come with the twincam engine.

Your best bet would be to swap on a DOHC head. The compression would be lower than a true DOHC engine, but that would be the easiest way to make it not as embarrassing to drive.

Don't bother modding that engine, it has little to no potential.

That song sucks and the video is even worse.

Oh and your problem is with the cam. It's because it has one not two.

Don't forget the 8 missing valves... I have an SOHC as well, though - it's fine for an A to B car, but modifying it is pointless - the sooner people understand that, the sooner they can find inner peace...

An intake and an exhaust will help some, but don't expect a ton of power.
