Default new air intake

hey guys, i'm a newb at mods for my car. i recently bought an air intake for my '95 SL1. i was wondering how exactly you go about installing it. i see what needs to come out. the clips holding in the pipe from the filter to the engine area, how exactly do they come off? the rest seems easy enough, unscrewed the air sensor and the 3 bolts holding down the factory air filter. oh yea, btw i bought the intake off ebay, to give you an idea what i'm working with. lookin at the new intake, i assembled it already, but i was wondering why i have an extra hose. i see from other peoples pics, that one hose goes from intake pipe to engine. but the other hole, does that one get a hose too? any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ahh yes. Finding the right hole can be confusing for n00bi3s...j/k. Basically, remove the stock intake. There are a few bolts holding down. Take pliers to squeeze the clamp on the throttle body and remove the stock piping. When, put the new intake on the TB. Install the filter. Put the IAT sensor in the pipe (assuming there is already a whole) and take the small hose from the engine to the nipple-thinger on the new intake. That's basically it. Kinda self-explanitory cause I've done it too many times so it may be unclear to you. Just ask if it is.

so you use pliers to get rid of the clamps on the existing airfilter? cuz they have like no wiggle room, so i don't wanna completely destroy it while i'm trying to take it out. *specifically the area where the old air filter connects to the throttle body*

yeah, it's like a big clamp around the hose holding it tightly onto the throttle body, i just cleaned mine out the other day and it took me a minute to see what was going on..

basically, if you have a hand clamp (or very very strong thumb and pointer fingers), you put it on the clamp, it'll tighten against itself, which in turn loosens its grasp around the hose which lets you shimmy it right off the throttle body, you should be able to see the butterfly valve inside when you take it off.

my question is, (i just got an ebay intake too -short ram-) where is the intake sensor? is it the one near the throttle body? and what's it look like? kinda stupid but i've never really looked..

the IAT is screwed into the airbox (the housing of the stock air filter). It should be able to just unscrew (although mine took a bit more convincing) and the you pop the IAT into the hole behind the filter. Check out the engine page on my cardomain site for approximate pics...granted mine's a DOHC, but that doesn't really matter.

You need to stop right now.

Go out, get yourself a manual.

Read it cover to cover 5 times over.

And then install the intake.

I don't think you can be half-totalled it's kinda of an all or nothing deal =)

The reason it's annoying to discuss how to install a air intake is becuase there is only really 2 ways to do it the right way and the wrong way, and since the right way is probably been posted somewhere on this board, the search button would be in order

ROFL jeep isn't even close to the bigget jerk on here and hes right.

If you want to get your car modified right your going to have to read the manual!! 5 times may be a little excessive but at least 2 it's hard to understand for newer people the first time around.

It explains EVERYTHING and you will actually know what the upgrade your getting is actually doing instead of just being able to say OMG DUDER AEM says I got 15 hp WOOT ROXOR!

Information is only power when applied correctly, it honestly really does help to know what your doing to your car when you modify it.

To the original poster all your questions have been answered and you should be fine with your install.

I'm not sure how much of gains your going to notice from your E-bay intake though since it's probably just a short ram intake and you don't have a scoop or any other inlet duct to let cold air hit the filter your just oging to be grabbing ambiet engine air thats heated up.

okay, i had my entire left side (with the exception of the rear quarter panel and trunk) taken off, and yes, your car can be half-totalled. think about it, totalled is 65% or more damaged, half would be about 30%, thats more than the entire front left side gone. don't give me that b.s.

in addition, jeep is not right, yes reading a manual would help but he's new and came on here for some done-and-done information from people who've done it before. BOMZ, AEM, or ebay, it's all the same installation and he wants to make sure that he's not missing any small detail the manual might not cover. that's what this forum is for.

the search button is powerful, but as a newb, he prob just wanted to get his voice out there.

i hate newbie-bashers. you were a newb once.
