it does have a rev limiter. there is no problem there.
also SC1 = single cam
SC2 = twin cam

Yup - rev limiter at 4k when not in gear. These engines don't handle no-load rev'ing very well, so it's for the best.

And for '92, it would be an SC, not SC2, though it is the same thing as an SC2.

The cooling fan should turn on under 2 conditions:

-temperature gauge reaches or exceeds 3/4 on the temp gauge (this is not really overheating, especially in earlier S-Series it was fairly normal to reach this temperature. As long as nothing boils over, it's probably ok, though if it's an extremely common occurrance, the coolant system may need attention). Fan kicks on & the temp should drop back down fairly quickly.

-AC is turned on. Fan should kick on a second or two after the AC is turned on, assuming that the AC is working.

If the fan is not kicking on, first thing to do will be to determine if the motor is ok, and there is a way to just jumper a couple things & force it to run. If it doesn't, then the motor is bad. Then go from there...

Just so ya know

On an S Series with an Auto-matic (Auto-tragic) Tranny anytime you are in P or N and Rev the engine, there is a Rev limiter/Fuel cut off at
4,000 RPM's.

On an S Series with a 5 SPeed Tranny, when you are in N, there is a Rev limiter/Fuel cut off at 4,000 RPM's.

Now if you put a PCM from an Auto into an S Series that has a 5 Speed, that Rev limiter/Fuel cut off will not exist anymore. However, I'm not sure if it is your timing or what, but your car might then have momentary stall anytime you press on the gas pedal.

Case in Point. I gotta '00 SL2 (DOHC - Double Overhead Cam Engine) with lots of Performance Mods (No Turbo, Supercharger or Nitrous), but just about if not all Bolt-on Performance Goodies. The car originally had an Auto-tragic Tranny. I had the Tranny swapped out about 2 months ago for a 5 Speed. So I don't have any Rev lmiter/Fuel cutoff when I'm in N, but anytime I press the gas pedal, I get a momentary stall/slight hesitation.
