Default Transmission Help

I was wondering if anyone can get me a good condition sohc 5 speed tranny with the diff alrdy welded. I am kind of looking at the 200 dollar range, and was just wondering if anyone does that kinda thing and wouldnt mind selling me a trans. I am going to replace my dohc tranny, for the future turbo plans next year. ALSO does anyone know the price of FIrepowers Turbo Manifold, because I like where it places the turbo.

Firepower sucks. That is all I will say about that. Hell I can make you a turbo manifold from a 92 header to save the AC if that's what you are interested.

Anyway, I just sold my last MP2 to a guy on eBay, and since I just moved I haven't got my garage setup yet. Any specific time frame you need the transmission by?

Heh. I will never make a AC-saving manifold ever again. It's such a pain to get the runners so close to the flange itself so it fits behind the AC bracket, and then once it does fit and the person has to install it on their car, I get complaints about how it's too close to the head and you have go buy a special wrench to get to the exhaust studs to tighten it down.

Since 99+ DOHC is 9-bolt, you can't simply use a 91-92 5-bolt header. I say 91-92 header because they are the one years where everything was steel and it's completely weldable. the 93+ manifolds are cast and you just simply can't weld to cast and expect it to go through the heat abuse and weight abuse of 2 different metals and expect it to hold. Sure, Twistec did it, but how reliable was it? It's bad enough that I weld steel to cast when welding differentials, but they usually come out real clean looking, and since there isn't any stress on the pin, I'm not worried about the weld breaking.

So how much do you think you would charge me for a trans just like the one you sold. Sohc 5 speed cleaned and working good with a welded diff pin, and im not in a hurry or anything.

It just depends on how much it costs me I guess. I've just go to wait until I get my new garage before I can start doing any work at all. I have no idea where my tools are.

Does is HAVE to be SOHC? DOHCs are usually easier to come by.

Yes, i want to swap it for future turbo plans, and for the better gear ratios. But i am not totally sure about swapping. thats why i have time to decide.

Can't you turbo on a DOHC?

I knew the day would come when having an SL1 would actually be a good thing. I've got a spare MP3 sitting around, gonna swap it for the MP2 in the SL1 and then weld up and possibly do a quaife in the MP2 and throw it in my SC2. Both cars will benefit from that one.
