Default 1999 sl1 automatic

My first car....Only has 18,000 miles on it so it's goin to last me along time, so i want to like it and have a good time with me. I bought it for 5.5grand, i got another grand or more left in the bank. I want to put some preformance parts in it. I dont know ANYTHING about cars....So im here lookin for some help. With 1000 dollars in my hand, what can i put into my saturn. Im lookin for some more horsepower, faster acceleration. Maybe an air intake, exhaust system, or whatever(again im not car savvy). Any help would be cool.

Best thing would be to save cash and get a dohc head (dual overhead cam)..make sure u search about the dohc head swap.
But if you dont want to do that, start out with intake (injen or aem, or the cp intakes off ebay), header im not sure if this will fit your car since you are single overhead cam (either one off a 91-92 or obx), then lastly go for the cat back exhaust (thermal research and development or hks make one but those are around $500). The best thing to do for the exhaust would be to get a universal 2.25" or 2.5" magnaflow exhaust and get a custom 2.25" or 2.5" cat back exhaust done at you local exhaust shop. One free mod would be to bore out your throttle body and you will be able to find info or doing that by searching on this site. Some good stires to check out are

www.spswebpage.com
www.nopionline.com

Best thing to do is search because there have been some many topics already covered on here it will save you the hassle of waiting for people to reply.

Low milage on it though. great idea to swap it? I mean if he really wants to put some serious power into it he could.

This is tru but the thing is that the sohc head is gonna hamper hp gains on any mods they do. The sohc head is great gas milage, but if you want to actually start tricking it out and make power they are gonna need a dohc head. I know it sux because it is a brand new car pretty much but its the truth.
