Thanks everyone. Now I have some more quesitons:

1. Does it matter what brand I buy (are some more or less reliable mileagewise)

2. What is the difference between. 1.9L 116cid L4 MFI (7) and 1.9L 116cid L4 MFI ( 8 )? My car is a 97 SL2 DOHC. Does that help in determining which of these applies to me?

3. My car is due for smog in CA. Should I run seafoam into the intake then swap out the o2 sensors prior to smogging? As I've posted before my gas mileage is down to about 24 25 mpg and I do mainly freeway driving. I pretty much gave up then realized this could be a sign that I'll fail the smog test.

4. I also am thinking about getting a new EGR. My car has 95k I've owned it since 48k and bought it from a saturn dealership. Does it sound about right to swap out the EGR, o2's and this will be the second spark plug change.

1) any should be fine
2) the first is SOHC the second in DOHC listed perspectively on most sites
3) Seafoam works very well. use like 1/3 of a can through the TB (you will have to rev it where the throttle cable hooks up alot to keep it from dying) it will smoke alot, thats ok. Let it run for like 10 mins after that. Next pour the rest of that can and another 1/2 can - full can into a full tank of gas and run it right down to E
4) changing the O2 sensor, EGR, and plugs wont hurt and should limit your possibilities of failing.

Thanks

One more thing. I bought some bosch plugs from kragens that have two prongs and on the box it says never requires gapping. Do they mean never or only before the first use? A dumb question but never bought a plug with 2 prongs ( one on each side of the plug). They're Bosch Platinum +2 Why did I buy them? A language barrier. Then once I was charged I was too lazy to go through the process of getting cheap ones, lol.

there's a decent chance that those platinum plugs will develop a misfire over time - the s-series doesn't like platinum generally...

F! that's what I was afraid of. I know back when the split fire plugs came out there was talk going around that they actually caused a slight reduction in power on vw type1 engines.

I'll try and return them and get other ones. I guess just go with a cheap standard plug?
