Yes, but you shouldn't have to worry about water in your intake unless you plan on crossing a river. The filter needs to be totally submerged, and that just isn't going to happen.

So unless you regulary ride in water up to your headlights, I wouldn't worry about it.

So there I was, pretty drunk and wondering how that even worked, when I figured it out.

Path of least resistance. The engine would rather suck air in through that bypass than suck water up through the filter. I do wonder if any air goes through that normally, or if it adds any turbulence to the airflow.

<==engineer in training.

I'll prolly grab one before I put my CAI on.

not true! stock air box plus big puddle equals hydrolocked motor and rod through the cylinder wall.

That's the intake on my SC if you can see the front bumper and how low its hanging. I drove that thing through rain so bad the car couldn't maintain over 40mph even with the gas floored. It never even hiccuped (sp?). Yes hitting a big puddle at high speed can cause hydro lock with even a stock airbox, buts it very very rare. I've seen only one such case in the 3 years I've worked at a dealer. The puddle your car is in is huge, I would never have drove through that.

Yes it disturbs airflow, AEM even says it disturbs flow that's why they don't make it an option for the V2 intakes.

No it doesn't normally let air in, its controled by a diaphram.

I supposed it can be a good safety measure, but it was never nessesary on my SC for 3 years and some very intense weather.

That's about where I want to put my filter. Good choice? I was just worried about it not getting enough cold air.

so get one just for the fact that it can save my car if i run it around water.i live in north carolina at th beach we have just been hit with a hurrican and another one on its way should be here around monday of next week.....water gets high around here that is why i was asking about a bypass.

*Edit* Were do I find one for a Saturn because that one is for an Eclipse (I have one by the way)......Didn't see any on ebay but i was thinking that can be used for any car because if the cold air intake is the same size then it shouldnt matter.....

Worked fine for me, noticed a big difference over the short ram.

Why are you worried about it not getting enough air? The air doesn't have to be blowing directly at it, although you could cut out like the plastic blocking those side vents like I did in the pic. But as long as its out of the engine bay you're fine, the open space around the filter is bigger than the filter itself so you'll get plenty of air.
