Default OBX Stainless Headers Reveiw

Wow, I bought a set of OBX Headers for my 96 SL2 and they're awesome! You can feel a definite increase in throttle response and pick-up! The sound they make is freaking awesome too, it's nice and growley and I have stock cat-back piping and muffler. Passing traffic on Orange County freeways is no problem now. It took the guys at Good Year about an hour and a half to install them and $120 later they rock.
For the money they're definitly worth the $155 I paid. The inside of the flange where the welds are and all the seams were nice and smooth. The only thing I could see negative is that on the ride home they changed from a nice silver steel to a light gold kind of color.

Are the bends smooth mandrel bend? What's the circumference of the tubes? (could you just wrap a string around them and measure the string for me?)

lol, string. I'll have to measure them for you. And, yes the bends are mandrel bent. As far as I know, Stainless Stell isn't supposed to rust? I do have a small problem though. I need to know where I can get something to isolate my Catalytic Converter, it vibrates really bad against the Heat sheild. I was thinking about some sort of fiberglass insulation? Any ideas?

for the heat shield, you can just bend it out of the way so it doesnt contact the cat. As for the color of the pipes, one of my friends has the OBX header and it has urned purple and gold, actually looks really cool IMO.

The stainless steel itself shouldn't rust, but the coating can discolor.

I've got to say that I recently picked up a used OBX stainless muffler for resale purposes, and I'm impressed with the quality.

I'm almost tempted to have it clamped on to something just to see how it sounds. LOL.

92 OEM>Hotshot>OBX>Pacesetter

Ive heard bad things about the OBX header cracking because its only 18 gauge steel and Hotshot is 16 i believe so it's thicker. OBX is a copy of the old Hotshot design that was 18 gauge and had cracking issues. Either get Hotshot or OEM 92 IMO.
