Default TAMS, again..................

go here..........

http://www.streetdesignauto.com/

click on motor mounts for the 's' series, located between the dogbones and the TAM poly insert is a complete mount, click on detail specs and see a pic of the TAM. the picture doesn't show with my browser on the first page, but it shows with the detail clickage.....

i bought a poly insert back when they didn't offer this, the insert won't fit my TAM (different style) and i can't locate any of the older style ones, so...................

gonna get this one, anxious to see how it works in conjunction with the good poly dogs...........gonna try and exchange my extra insert for the win, or just to save a few bucks.........

later.

Default Hey

I have it and although it was a unholy hell to press in, works amazing. I got my new mounts in and I must say that yours are much smoother while still being just as stiff. My old ones are ok tho no signs of breaking the welds so i dunno how that would have worked. But there tam mount is awesome. My car cant hop a mm now it just hooks and goes.

Default TAM updateage

Went shopping today, third Auto Parts Store (Pep Boys, part #MT2827) had the right, original style TAM, got it ($34.99 +tx) shot homey, lubed the insert and got it is place in the mount, then installed it.

yes, a little more vibration at idle, but smooth as soon as one starts out, the car feels different with the insert....both accelerating and deccelerating. i had to install a new mount as the one in there was sagging and making shifting more difficult...............

understandibly any car with less miles than mine would prolly not vibrate as much, but it is livable and when hooked with the poly dogs, feels way solid, even in mine (almost 285,000miles)

Default further updateness

RE: The TAM insert....

cut the top flap off, then reinserted, MUCH LESS vibration and the lower part of the insert that keeps the motor mount from sagging and breaking still works...

teamed with the poly dogs, about as good as it gets.

if you hit the track a lot, then this may not be your ticket, but for everyday street driving and the occasional throttle mash, a perfect compromise.

later,

baldy

do you have any pictures of what you cut off?

i've heard some things about breaking the timing chain cover with this insert installed, so i'm a bit scared to put it in

I got my combo from SDA a couple days ago, put it in right away. Took no more than 20 minutes to do so. The vibration is alot more noticable but you get used to it, although you do find things that rattle in (and outside) your car that rattle that didn't used to. I enjoy it though. Teamed up the dogbone inserts, it almost completely gets rid of my wheelhop and most of the chatter I got from installing my ACT 6 puck and Fidanza flywheel.

hated the rattle, especially the door handles, and, yes, the thought of braking the cover on the engine crossed my mind, so this took care of both problems

this takes care of that problem, the flappage removal allows the TAM to ever so slightly rock, getting rid of the vibrations, yet still keeping things tight.....

i will take a pic when i get around to working on the car again, engine rebuild is starting next week.

It appears that the insert in mine has torn after only like 4 days, so I'm gonna email a picture of it to SDA and see what's up. I'll keep you guys as to what happens with it. Not saying it's a bad product at all or dissing SDA (installing their power cams tomorrow) but maybe I got a faulty one or something. I thought it felt wierd when the vibrating went down and the engine felt like it was rocking between shifts again. I checked it out and the insert is squishing out everywhere. We'll see what happens.
