Default what'll happen now?

Since the S is not made any more, will there still be aftermarket support for them?

Seeing the ION, somehow I highly doubt that aftermarket companies are going to jump at the chance to put out performance parts for them. This may ultimately be the time that companies are going to start building more and more parts for the S series.

Im guessing that they just won't drop everything on the S-Series and go to the ION, but with the 2.2L ECOTEC engine in the ION getting all this aftermarket attention already, the distant future for the S-Class might be getting smaller, but people like SPS and XRC will still supply parts for the S-Class, so theres no worry. We might get parts slower or something, but hopefully not considering I own a 94 SL2.

I hate to compare Saturns to a Civic, but its a classic example. Take a look at the Civic, many of the Aftermarket parts were not made until the car was a few years old. I think that this is because many teenagers can only afford the used car. Then upgrading their used car.

When cars become cheap, aftermarket performance parts increase and prices come down. Happened with the Civic, then the UnIntegra, etc.

A lot of people are starting to notice Saturn as a true player in the compact sport car scene. Light plastic car + great handling = one awesome car to mod.

Saturns are frequently used for non-ICE projects (electric cars, alternative energy prototypes) ...

Wasn't it Saturn who test marketed the GM EV1 a few years back?

The EV1 was labeled, and sold, as a Saturn, but it really was a GM development product. The EV1 was also a lease-only vehicle.

It was quick too. No transmission, and about as fast as an L300. One of the EV1 marketing videos showed the EV1 blowing by a pair of Miatas, just to show an electric car can accelerate quickly too.

Picture this......40 years from now, we'll all be talking about how we used to use fuel to power our cars........and how our cars needed wheels and tires to move along. The innovations of the automotive world are just getting nuts.....LOL.

Last I heard, the EV1 was only sold in Cali, and it never did take off the way they had planned. I've only ever seen the car once in person and that was down at Epcot Center in Florida. It was hanging on the wall in I think it was the technology pavillion.
