Default Another good 'ol rim question: Are spacers safe to use?

Ok,

Back to the drawing board...

I've found yet another set of rims that I like a lot, and fits all of my criterias...but, it's a 20x7.5...perfect for normal width, but now I've added the fender flares, I don't want them to swallow the rims.

I know I'm able to use spacers just to push 'em out a lil' bit...but is it a safe option to do? I don't want to do anything that's gonna put extra stress on the suspension. Any help is appreciated.

They'll put added stress on the bearings, but depending on how far out you're putting the wheels, it may not harm them all too badly.

If you plan on driving it at all, then don't use the spacers. With the rim and tire already over sized, pushing it out would add to much stress on the hubs. I doubt bearings would last a month.

And depending on the use of the vehicle, decides whether or not they are safe.

I dont agree. Lifted jeeps 32"+ tires have offset wheels. They stress the wheel bearings, but not excessively. they will reduce the life of the bearings but its not going to happen in a month. it will take years.

We use 5mm spacers on our ITA race car. Yes, it puts a bit of stress on the bearings, but they still last us at least a season.

Yeah, your bearing will for sure wear out noticably faster but if you can live with replacing em every year or so I say got for it. My truck eats through wheel bearings and ball joints because of the large tires but that won't stop me when I'm in the market for new tires. I just know I have to replace them more frequently and I can deal with that. You gotta compromise sometimes.

Any imbalance in the wheel spacer will directly affect the balance of the wheel and therefore put stress on your bearings and other components. so if machined correctly, you probly wont see a huge difference.

you have to figure, its about as bad as putting a set of heavy a$$ rims on your car.

Rear disc brake-equipped cars should use hub spacers - since the disc assembly consumes most of the available hub surface.

obviously they cause the bearings to wear out quicker, but how much do the bearings cost and when do you know you need new ones?
