Default 94 SL2 thermostat installation

Hi all, this is my first post and hopefully an easy one to get advice for.

My daughter's 94 SL2 was involved in an accident and hasn't been on the road in several months. Just yesterday I thought I should probably add some fuel stabilizer and try starting it up. It started up OK, but even after letting it idle for half an hour it never defrosed the windshield and the engine was running slightly hot. Becauseof this I think the thermostat is stuck shut. I bought the replacement part and it came with a rubber o ring and no gasket.

Is any gasket or sealent necesary for installation or is just the o ring sufficient?

I have done a couple of these jobs before and usually the hardest part is removing old gasket material and getting at the goose neck assembly. has anyone done this job who can offer advice as to the location and other detaails.

Thank you for all your help.

it's only the o ring that seals the goose neck. You may want to take a brass brush and make sure the gally where the oring sits is clean.. it's a fairly easy fix.

Thnaks for your quick response Jonnyrocket92. I haven't been able to bring the car into the garage and look for where the gooseneck is located on the engine (1.9 L). Will I be able to do the repair from the top of the vehicle? I helped a friend replace a thermostat on a Ford and it was done from below. Also, is there anything I might try to ge the old Thermostat to open up? It was fine before letting the car sit for the past 6 months.

Thanks again.

if your letting it warm up for a while and it is not heating up I would say it's gone bad.. you can get it from the top, and bottem. all it is, is 2 10mm bolts. and the hose.. you may have a little trouble removing the hose, they tend to be a pain to get off...
